About the role
Standex International is a global industrial growth company operating through our market-leading brands in electronics, cutting-edge forming technologies, engraving and scientific refrigeration. We work with our customers to advance progress through innovation. From inventing and producing parts for next-generation space vehicles, to evolving vaccine refrigeration, designing functional textures for everyday products, improving renewable energy technology and much more, we are focused on making what’s next possible.
Standex Aerospace & Defense (A&D) manufactures large customized near-net-shaped metal formed components such as fuel domes, lip skins, and other aerospace components. Our unique spin forming process is the most efficient forming process for these parts, while we also have a complementary deep draw forming process for parts with varying shapes and contours. These parts are difficult to manufacture due to their size and tight specifications. With facilities in the US and UK, our segment is positioned to serve customers in the space, aviation, and defense markets in the North American and European regions. Our deep knowledge of the forming process, combined with our multiple decades of experience, has positioned us as a critical manufacturing partner.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing and supporting our metal forming production processes in the Forming department. Duties include hands-on development, troubleshooting, process definition, standard work, tool design & improvement, and process control documentation. This role focuses on improving process efficiency, product quality, and operational reliability in a manufacturing environment. This position works closely with all levels of Engineering, as well as Manufacturing, to create a product that meets the customer’s requirements. Additionally, this position spans both process and project engineering tasks, goals, and initiatives to provide a well-rounded experience in Engineering, with specific focus on the Forming processes.
What You’ll Do • Act as the technical liaison between Engineering and Manufacturing. • Monitor and optimize forming processes to ensure consistent product quality and throughput. • Analyze production data to identify trends, root causes of defects, and opportunities for process improvements. • Analyze, standardize, and improve existing forming operations to reduce cycle time, improve tool life, and enhance part quality. • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for forming-related issues. • Assist with approval of tool designs for critical processing. • Conduct forming simulations and finite element analysis (FEA) using AutoForm to evaluate and optimize the forming process. • Collaborate with Quality and Manufacturing teams to implement new materials, equipment, and technologies, in the Forming department. • Support equipment commissioning, trials, and scale-up of forming equipment upgrades. • Create visual instructions with process definition and control for safe and repeatable manufacturing processes such as Process Control documents (PCs), Work Instructions (WI), and Operating Process Sheets (OPS). • Analyze technology and resources needed to plan and assess the feasibility of processes and associated equipment. • Assist with schedules and project status updates using Asana or MS Project for different programs/projects. • Assist with developing PFMEAs where and/or when necessary to mitigate process risk. • Organize and evaluate process and cost data (ex. planned vs. actual) to support decision-making activities. • Provide estimating support and input through developing layouts and tool concepts for costing/quoting. • Manage drawings, data sets, models, parts lists, and specifications in accordance with internal controls. • Evaluate, research, and provide feedback on new technologies. • Participate in internal or external presentations related to Engineering topics. • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all safety and quality procedures. • Occasionally visit vendors and suppliers. • Attend meetings and training, as required. • Complete tasks and projects, as assigned.
Team Responsibilities • Provide necessary support to McStarlite facility as needed. • Have a daily presence on the manufacturing floor to work collaboratively with Manufacturing team. • Support other areas or divisional business units as directed by manager.
What You’ll Bring • Associate’s degree, or higher, in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering preferred. Will consider relevant experience and high mechanical aptitude. • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment. • Proven track record of managing complex engineering projects from concept to completion. • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies. • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, Fusion 360, AutoForm, Mastercam, Verisurf, Robotmaster, Roboguide) and project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Asana). • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn other software. • Reliable transportation.
What We Value • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. • High level of confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with clients & vendors. • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships. • Ability to effectively manage time, multi-task, and pay close attention to details. • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Regularly required to move, sit, and bend for various hours throughout the day.
