The Role

We are seeking a Medical Research Mentor to guide pre-med students through the development and completion of original research projects in medicine, biomedical sciences, psychology, and related disciplines.

In this role, you will mentor students throughout the research process, from identifying a research topic and developing a research question to designing a study, interpreting findings, and preparing final research deliverables. You will help students strengthen their research skills, develop a deeper understanding of their chosen field, and work toward meaningful academic outcomes aligned with their interests and goals.

This position is ideal for experienced researchers who enjoy mentoring aspiring medical professionals and guiding students through the academic research process. This is a part-time, remote, 1099 independent contractor role open to candidates based in the United States or Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor pre-med students through the research process: Guide students from initial topic selection and research question development through study design, execution, and final deliverables.
  • Guide research development: Help students develop feasible, high-quality research questions aligned with their academic interests and future medical career goals.
  • Provide research feedback: Review research plans, data interpretation, and written research drafts, offering structured feedback to strengthen the quality of students' work.
  • Support research skills and standards: Help students understand research methodologies, academic research standards, and discipline-specific expectations.
  • Guide academic research deliverables: Support students working toward outcomes such as academic papers, research posters, or journal submissions, depending on program scope.
  • Monitor project progress: Track student progress against established milestones and timelines to maintain momentum throughout the research process.

Qualifications

  • MD and/or PhD in a relevant field, such as medicine, biomedical sciences, psychology, public health, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting academic or clinical research.
  • Strong background in research design, data analysis, and academic writing.
  • Experience mentoring students or trainees.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning, organization, and project management skills.
  • A genuine interest in mentoring undergraduate pre-med students and supporting their academic and professional development.
