About the role

Position Summary The Transit Driver transports passengers, including those with special needs, the elderly, people with disabilities, and children when accompanied by an adult rider to appointments in a safe, courteous, and reliable manner. Transit Drivers may also be asked to transport goods including hot and cold food items, clothing items, and other miscellaneous items. Drivers report to the Director of Transit. Essential Functions An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation: Operate motor vehicles of varying sizes. Maintain confidentiality. Comply with safety rules and traffic regulations. Perform vehicle inspection sheet for mechanical and/or safety issues. Maintain daily reports and ensure they are turned in for accurate recording. Collect fares from customers. Maintain contact with scheduler throughout the day via phone or message. Clean and sanitize vehicles. Report noncompliant passengers. Report safety concerns or mechanical concerns. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to pass DOT physical and meet DOT and CIN drug-free workplace requirements. Ability to work flexible or extended hours when needed. Ability to attend training and classes when needed. Ability to use GPS. Ability to operate lift or ramp. Ability to properly secure a wheelchair. Demonstrate sound judgement in working with customers. Maintain an effective, courteous, and professional demeanor. Use effective oral and written communication with team members, supervisor, and customers. Work Environment & Physical Demands The Transit Driver position operates within a dynamic and community-focused environment at the Catawba Indian Nation, primarily involving vehicle operation on local routes serving tribal members, visitors, and the general public. This role demands moderate to high physical exertion consistent with commercial vehicle operation. Essential functions include prolonged sitting (up to 8+ hours per shift) while driving, frequent use of hands for steering, braking, and operating controls, and occasional standing/walking for passenger assistance and vehicle inspections.
