About the role

Title: Registered Nurse Practice: Associated Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons Location: Peoria, IL

Pay: $27.00 - $37.00

Position Purpose:

The Registered Nurse supports the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care within our oral surgery practice. This role provides clinical support before, during, and after procedures; ensures adherence to safety and compliance standards; and promotes exceptional patient experience. The RN works closely with the surgeon and clinical team to prepare patients, assist during surgery, monitor patient status, and support postoperative recovery while maintaining an efficient clinical workflow.

Essential Functions

Patient Care & Clinical Support

  • Work collaboratively with physicians to deliver exceptional patient care in all phases of treatment
  • Monitor patients pre-operatively, intra-operatively, and post-operatively for complications
  • Recover and safely discharge patients following procedures
  • Perform and document patient care accurately and thoroughly
  • Start, maintain, and discontinue IVs
  • Administer pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative medications as ordered
  • Draw blood and perform patient glucose testing; maintain glucose monitors
  • Perform PRP procedures
  • Read and interpret EKG strips

Medication & Controlled Substance Management

  • Maintain accurate narcotics, medication, and patient medication records
  • Order medications and oversee documentation and controlled substance counts
  • Field and process all prescription requests
  • Maintain emergency medications and equipment, including defibrillators

Clinical Operations & Workflow Coordination

  • Direct patient flow within the clinical area and assign patients to clinical staff as appropriate
  • Review patient charts and alert staff and physicians to positive medical history findings
  • Perform charting and ensure charts are complete and accurate
  • Audit surgical EMR notes for accuracy and compliance

Infection Control & Safety

  • Oversee sterilization processes and related documentation to ensure compliance with infection control standards
  • Maintain emergency equipment and coordinate regular emergency training drills for clinical staff

Patient Communication & Follow-Up

  • Make post-operative patient calls and provide pre- and post-operative communication as needed
  • Respond to patient phone calls and clinical inquiries
  • Contact patients regarding medical clearances and confirm understanding of requirements

Medical Clearance & Pathology Coordination

  • Send medical clearance requests per physician instructions and maintain detailed tracking logs
  • Document clearance instructions clearly in the patient chart to support scheduling and compliance
  • Send biopsy specimens to the Oral Surgery Pathology Lab and confirm receipt and documentation of pathology reports

Inventory & Supply Management

  • Assist in maintaining supply lists and communicate needs to the Office Administrator

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalency, required
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing (ADN or BSN) preferred
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the practicing state
  • Willing to take the DAANCE Certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; advanced certifications (e.g., ACLS, sedation/anesthesia) preferred

Experience:

  • Prior nursing experience in surgical, perioperative, Med/Surg, or critical care settings highly preferred
  • Proficiency in patient assessment, perioperative care, and postoperative monitoring
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) and accurate clinical documentation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on patient education and comfort
  • Knowledge of infection control, safety standards, and clinical best practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Skills & Abilities

  • Proficient with medical devices and surgical equipment, including glucose monitors, infusion pumps, PRP machines, suction, cautery, pulp testers, and sterilization tools
  • Experienced with imaging equipment: Panorex, CT scan, ITERO, intraoral cameras
  • Competent with office and clinical technology, including computers and duplicators
  • Knowledgeable in oxygen and nitrous oxide administration
  • Trained in emergency procedures, including CPR, ACLS, and use of emergency suction and defibrillator
