Lifeguard/ Swim Instructor

Work Hours: Varies throughout the year/season with varied morning, mid day and evening shifts available on weekdays and weekends. Essential Job Functions: Have the ability to confidently lead private swim lessons as well as small group lessons Prevents injury by conducting proper surveillance and enforcing pool rules Act as part of the rescue team in the event of any emergency while on duty at the aquatic facility Must attend at least one in-service training per year Core Competencies The following list represents the core competencies needed for success in this position. Patience and respect when communicating with young children and their parents The ability to maintain emotional stability and self-control Understanding of how to create appropriate swim lessons for various skill levels and ages as per Red Cross WSI standards The ability to correctly identify a student’s skill level and conduct a lesson that follows meaningful progressions The ability to correct dangerous or forbidden behavior while maintaining a respectful tone with patrons The ability to fill out incident reports in the case of an injury while on duty Understanding the facilities EAP and being prepared to use it
