About the role
JOB SUMMARY: Miami Country Day School is seeking a collaborative, creative, and forward-thinking Middle School Innovation Teacher to join the Garner Center for Innovation (GCI). This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about engineering, design thinking, robotics, computer science, and emerging technologies, and who enjoys inspiring students through hands-on, project-based learning. Working as part of the PK3–12 Innovation and Fabrication Pathway, the Middle School Innovation Teacher partners with classroom teachers and fellow GCI faculty to create interdisciplinary learning experiences that integrate engineering, coding, artificial intelligence, digital fabrication, entrepreneurship, and product development. The teacher also mentors students as they develop original inventions and innovative solutions through the school's Entrepreneurship, Invention & Innovation (EI²) program. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Design and facilitate engaging, interdisciplinary, project-based learning experiences for Middle School students. Teach engineering, design thinking, coding, robotics, AI, and digital fabrication through authentic, hands-on projects. Introduce students to programming using platforms such as Scratch, Blockly, Python, Arduino, and other emerging technologies. Guide students in the safe and effective use of makerspace tools, including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, woodworking equipment, and CAD software. Collaborate with classroom teachers and GCI colleagues to integrate innovation and engineering concepts across the curriculum. Mentor 3–5 students annually through the EI² program, supporting them as they design, prototype, fabricate, brand, and present original products or inventions. Help maintain a safe, organized, and innovative makerspace environment. Contribute to PK3–12 curriculum development, shared instructional resources, and school-wide innovation initiatives. Participate in STEM events, innovation showcases, workshops, and other Garner Center for Innovation programming.
