About the role

Litigation Paralegal (3+ years’ experience) — Brown Sims (Houston, TX) Brown Sims is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join a busy civil litigation practice in the firm’s Houston office. About the Practice The practice focuses on complex civil litigation, with a strong emphasis on personal-injury defense, products liability, premises liability, transportation and trucking, wrongful death, construction injuries and defects, and commercial disputes. The team represents clients across the construction, energy, healthcare, hospitality, insurance, manufacturing, retail, and transportation industries, handling matters from early investigation through depositions, dispositive motions, mediation, and trial in Texas state and federal courts. Because our attorneys stay directly involved in every phase of their cases, the paralegal supporting this practice is a true partner in the work, not a back-office processor. You will work shoulder-to-shoulder with the attorneys on cases that matter, and your contributions will visibly move the needle. What You’ll Do Communicate directly with clients, witnesses, vendors, courts, and adjusters — including status updates, scheduling, and gathering case information. You will be a trusted point of contact rather than a behind-the-scenes resource. Manage medical records end-to-end — request, organize, review, summarize, and prepare chronologies of medical and billing records for personal injury, wrongful death, and catastrophic injury matters. This is a core, high-value function of the role. Drive case investigation — locate witnesses, pull public records, gather scene and incident materials, coordinate with investigators and experts, and help develop the factual record. Prepare and file pleadings in Texas state and federal courts (e-filing experience required); calendar deadlines and manage scheduling orders. Draft subpoenas, deposition notices, records authorizations, discovery responses (form portions), and routine correspondence. Prepare deposition and hearing binders, page/line summaries, exhibit indices, and trial notebooks. Track and enter billable time in compliance with client billing guidelines (clear, descriptive, non-block-billed narratives).
