Summary of Essential Duties

Contour is seeking a highly analytical and commercially minded Director of Commercial Planning to lead the company’s network planning, commercial forecasting, route performance analysis, and strategic growth evaluation.

The Director of Commercial Planning will play a central role in determining where and how Contour deploys its aircraft, evaluates new market opportunities, optimizes existing routes, and develops the analytical foundation for major commercial decisions. The position will work closely with Revenue Management, Marketing, Finance, and the Operations Teams.

This is a highly visible role with direct influence on Contour’s growth strategy and financial performance. The ideal candidate combines strong quantitative and financial skills with practical airline commercial judgment and the ability to translate complex analysis into clear recommendations and executable decisions.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be intellectually curious, highly analytical, commercially aggressive, and comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial environment. This individual should be equally comfortable building a detailed route profitability model, challenging the assumptions behind a forecast, and presenting a concise recommendation to both internal and external stakeholders.

Contour operates differently from a traditional large network airline, and the successful candidate will recognize opportunities that may not fit conventional airline planning models. The role requires someone who can combine rigorous analysis with creativity, commercial judgment, and a willingness to challenge established assumptions.

Key Responsibilities

Network & Market Planning

- Lead the evaluation, development, and optimization of Contour’s route network and aircraft deployment.

- Identify and evaluate new market opportunities utilizing passenger demand, fare, competitive, demographic, connectivity, operational, and financial data.

- Develop detailed route-level business cases, including revenue forecasts, operating cost estimates, profitability projections, and scenario analyses.

- Recommend market launches, frequency changes, schedule adjustments, aircraft allocation, and market exits based on financial and strategic performance.

- Maintain short-, medium-, and long-term network plans aligned with aircraft availability, fleet growth, and company strategy.

- Evaluate opportunities across scheduled service, Essential Air Service (“EAS”), public-private partnerships, at-risk flying, and other commercial structures

Commercial Forecasting & Performance

- Own route-level forecasting and commercial performance reporting across the network.

- Establish performance expectations and KPIs for new and existing markets, including load factor, yield, revenue per departure, passenger volume, and route contribution.

- Conduct regular market performance reviews and identify opportunities to improve revenue, capacity deployment, schedule quality, or profitability.

- Partner with Finance to ensure commercial forecasts are incorporated into company budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans.

Revenue & Market Analysis

- Analyze booking trends, fares, passenger demand, competitive capacity, seasonality, and customer behavior to support commercial decision-making.

- Work closely with Revenue Management to develop market-level pricing strategies and optimize revenue performance.

- Evaluate passenger stimulation, market share, connecting traffic opportunities, and competitive responses associated with proposed network changes.

- Utilize industry data sources and internal booking information to develop market intelligence and identify emerging opportunities.

Schedule & Capacity Planning

- Develop commercially optimized schedules that balance customer demand, connectivity, aircraft utilization, crew considerations, maintenance requirements, and operational reliability.

- Partner with Operations and Crew Planning to ensure proposed schedules are operationally achievable and efficiently utilize company resources.

- Evaluate schedule alternatives and quantify the commercial and financial implications of different operating scenarios.

- Support seasonal schedule development and longer-term fleet deployment planning.

Strategic Growth & Partnerships

- Support evaluation of strategic commercial opportunities, including airline partnerships, interline and codeshare opportunities, airport incentives, minimum revenue guarantees, and other risk-sharing structures.

- Develop financial analyses supporting negotiations with airports, communities, tourism organizations, government entities, and commercial partners.

- Support preparation of EAS and other government-supported air service proposals, including market analysis, schedule development, traffic forecasting, and financial modeling.

- Partner with Marketing to identify opportunities to improve market development and accelerate the performance of new routes.

- Support senior leadership on fleet planning, strategic initiatives, acquisitions, and other commercial projects as required.
