The company is building the infrastructure to digitize chemistry for the design, discovery and synthesis of new molecules with the desired function and properties instantly and on-demand. Chemify has built a platform that combines purpose-built programming languages, robotics, AI, and the world's largest and continuously growing database of chemical programs to accelerate chemical discovery to new, transformative heights. Chemify is supported by some of the best investors from Silicon Valley and across the world, including Triatomic Capital, BlueYard Ventures, DCVC, Founders Fund, and others.

What we offer

This is your chance to step into a first formal leadership role, with real influence over how a growing analysis review team operates — from workload and rota planning to coaching people through their toughest cases. You'll stay close to the technical side too, as the person the team turns to for its hardest structure elucidation problems. It comes with a competitive base salary, an uplift for unsocial hours, and enhanced annual leave on top of the standard entitlement.

Job purpose

As our Analysis Review Team Leader, you'll be accountable for the performance, quality and development of a shift-based team interpreting NMR and UPLC-MS data from our automated chemistry platform. You'll set the standard for consistent, high-quality interpretation, act as the final point of escalation for the most complex structure elucidation and signal assignment problems, and make sure the team has the coaching, workload planning and rota coverage it needs to deliver round the clock.

Who we are looking for

We're looking for someone who leads by example: an experienced analytical scientist with either prior teamleading or supervisory experience, or enough industry depth to be ready to take that step. You're a confident decision-maker under pressure, comfortable giving feedback and coaching others through difficult cases, and just as at home managing a rota as solving a tricky structure at the bench. You build good working relationships across teams — with our POM team on complex outcomes, and OPS when troubleshooting — and know how to keep a team motivated through demanding, repetitive shift work.

Key responsibilities

• Workload and rota planning: Plan and manage the shift rota to ensure consistent coverage across evenings and weekends, and allocate day-to-day workload across the team.

• Performance and development: Run regular one-to-ones and performance reviews, identify training needs, and support each team member's development and progression.

  • Onboarding and recruitment: Onboard new starters and contribute to recruitment as the team grows.

• Complex interpretation: Act as the team's escalation point for ambiguous or complex spectra, applying structure elucidation and NMR signal assignment expertise to resolve difficult cases.

• Quality and compliance: Own SOPs and quality procedures for the team's data review, and lead timely investigation of flagged discrepancies or audit findings.

• Continuous improvement: Identify and implement improvements to interpretation guidelines and workflows, and contribute to building out the automation of our analytical data processing and interpretation work, working closely with our software team.

• Team representation and culture: Chair team meetings, represent the team in cross-functional discussions with the POM and OPS teams, and report on team performance and quality metrics to senior scientists and stakeholders.

Qualifications and experience

Essential

• Education and experience: PhD in synthetic chemistry, or equivalent experience, with several years of industry experience in analytical or synthetic chemistry

• Leadership experience: Proven experience leading, supervising or mentoring a team, and/or significant industry experience that has prepared you for a first-line leadership role

• Structure elucidation and spectral assignment: Skilled in resolving challenging structure elucidation and NMR signal assignment problems — using 1D/2D NMR data (e.g. COSY, HSQC, HMBC, NOESY) alongside UPLC-MS to confidently assign structures to complex or ambiguous compounds

• Technical grounding: Working knowledge of LC/HPLC/UPLC data, including mass spectrometry and UV/Vis and/or ELSD detection

• Organic chemistry knowledge: A solid understanding of organic chemistry, to make sense of the reactions under review and anticipate likely side products or impurities

• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication, comfortable coaching junior team members and discussing complex outcomes with senior scientists and cross-functional teams

  • Flexibility: Able to work, and help manage, a rotating shift pattern that includes evenings and weekends

Desired (not essential)

  • Software: Prior experience with MestreNova or similar NMR processing software

• Process improvement: Experience contributing to automation or continuous-improvement initiatives in an analytical or laboratory setting

  • Quality systems: Exposure to formal quality systems or audits in a regulated environment

Compensation and working pattern

A competitive base salary reflecting the seniority of a first-line team leader role, plus an uplift for unsocial hours worked as part of the shift pattern, and enhanced annual leave on top of the standard entitlement. Full training is provided from day one.

Growth opportunities

This role is a clear step toward more senior leadership positions within our analysis team, such as site or department-level management. There's also potential to take a leading role in building out the automation of our analytical data processing and interpretation work, in collaboration with our software team, as the platform grows.

Location

Based at our Glasgow site. Given the hands-on nature of leading a shift-based team, this role is primarily onsite, though there may be some flexibility for remote working on administrative tasks once you're established in the role.
