About the role
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-time Stage: Post-Seed / Early Scale-up Location: Remote Working Hours: UK Hours About the Role The client is a category-defining sustainable technology company transforming propulsion across Air, Sea, and Sport. With a protected IP portfolio of 36 patents, they have already launched a UK D2C brand in the Sport sector and are in the process of globalising D2C sales. They are now seeking their first in-house finance hire. This individual will be a strategic partner to the CEO and will be responsible for building a global, world-class finance function from the ground up to support our trajectory toward a projected £36M revenue by 2030. What will make you a great fit for this role? We are looking for a commercially aggressive Finance Lead who has ideally seen this "movie" before - moving a company from a lean startup to an international scale-up. This is a high-impact, hands-on role. The successful candidate must be willing to manage the day-to-day accounting (AP/AR/Payroll) in the short term, while simultaneously architecting the systems required for international expansion. This isn't just an accounting job; it’s a seat at the table of a company making a genuine environmental impact. From reducing underwater noise for marine life to making aviation quieter and paddle sports more accessible, the finance lead will be the "co-pilot" in our mission to change how the world moves. What you'll do Finance Transformation: Transitioning the function from the current outsourced provider to a high-performing in-house department. International Scale: Navigating multi-entity consolidation and tax compliance (UK, US, EU, Japan). A key initial project is the implementation of automated tax software for North American sales. ERP Implementation: Leading the move from basic accounting software to a scalable ERP system that integrates global inventory, manufacturing (OEMs), and D2C sales. Build, Automate, Scale: As they scale from hundreds to thousands of global transactions, they cannot simply add headcount to solve problems. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and implementing automation tools to streamline the D2C sales-to-ledger workflow and project tracking. Simultaneously, they must design and enforce a robust framework of internal controls. Cash & Working Capital: Managing the complex cycle of physical stock production (Sport) vs. R&D grant tracking (Aviation) and high-value B2B retrofits (Marine). Requirements Qualified: ACA, ACCA, or CIMA with post-qualification experience in a product-based SME. Multi-Entity & FX: Proven ability to consolidate international subsidiaries and manage foreign exchange risk. Technical Excellence: Mastery of IFRS/GAAP and the ability to lead the company through its first professional audit. Strategic Modelling: Capability to build "what-if" scenarios and investment decks for our next £1M+ funding rounds. Hands-on Tech Stack: Experience with e-commerce stacks and automating finance workflows to keep the team lean as volume increases. Remote Work: Fully setup to work remotely & within UK business hours. Personal Attributes The "Builder" Mindset: The client is a small, elite team. The candidate must be comfortable being the "department of one" initially, with the vision to hire a team as we grow. Business Partner: Someone who can sit with our PhD-level Technology Leads and provide financial guardrails that encourage, rather than stifle, innovation. Stakeholder Savvy: Able to work alongside our Non-Exec Finance Director to ensure board-level governance.
