Job Description: An HVAC Service Technician provides HVAC/R services with specific responsibility for identifying repair and/or replacement needs, installing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading HVAC/R systems and equipment, and assisting other skilled trades. Primary Duties: • Coordinates with supervisor and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently. • Diagnoses causes of problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning systems. • Inspects HVAC systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs, and recommending preventative maintenance. • Performs routine preventative maintenance to ensure ongoing functioning of HVAC systems. • Repairs heating and air conditioning systems and/or components for the purpose of ensuring a comfortable living/working environment. • Responds to emergency situations during or after hours to ensure resolution of immediate safety concerns. • Provide customers with information and pricing on service agreements, accessories, quality, cost and other comfort improvements. • Complete approved repairs, improvements, or installations within industry standard times, following proper safety procedures. • Collect for work performed. • Clean equipment and work area upon completion of work. • Coordinate work with dispatch. • Provide information required by dispatch to keep jobs organized and customers informed of progress. • Maintain material stock levels in service vehicle as well as keeping vehicle clean and organized. • Complete paperwork as required on a timely basis. • Perform approved repairs on a timely basis. • May be asked to work in other departments as needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Ability to arrive on time daily • Proficient Verbal and Written English language skills • Ability to follow and carry out both written and verbal instructions in a timely manner • Ability to safely use ladders including 28’ extension ladders in performance of job duties including climbing and descending from a ladder • Ability to work at heights above ground floor level and move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces • Ability to quickly troubleshoot problems • Ability to follow controls/wiring schematic • Ability to braze/solder/weld • Ability to learn and apply diagnostic techniques. • Follow all PPE and safety guidelines • Operate lifts per safety requirements • Participate in Service Agreement Program • Educate customers about products and services JLAC offers • Follow instructions from Service Coordinators and Supervisor • Collect on service calls when required • Offer to make repairs that are needed during service calls • Offer HVAC system replacement option when practical • Communicate with Service Coordinator about parts needs and job completion • Make sure parts needed are ordered in a timely manner • Communicate vehicle repair needs to supervisor • Report company tools that require repair to supervisor • Demonstrate the ability to provide exceptional customer service • Demonstrate the ability to perform planned maintenance as required on residential/commercial HVAC systems • Demonstrate the ability to proficiently troubleshoot residential/commercial air conditioning and heat pump system malfunctions • Demonstrate the ability to diagnose airflow problems and make recommendations to remedy problems • Demonstrate the ability to diagnose and repair chilled water systems and boiler systems • Demonstrate the ability to proficiently diagnose gas furnace problems on both residential/commercial systems • Demonstrate the ability to diagnose and repair various zone systems • Demonstrate the ability to diagnose problems with various DDC control systems • Demonstrate the ability to program VFD drives • Demonstrate the ability to read and follow blue print instruction • Demonstrate the ability to perform startup operations on commercial HVAC systems • Demonstrate the ability to draw and design basic duct systems • Demonstrate the ability perform air flow test and balance procedures • Demonstrate the ability to perform heat load calculations • Maintain vehicle for work efficiency and appearance • Demonstrate the ability to use company computers, forms and other technology • Train Level 1-2 technicians • Create and develop training modules and administer them to other technicians/installers • Demonstrate the willingness to mentor and assist other technicians • Pass and maintain NATE Core Exam + 1 specialty (as required by manager) • Receive a passing score of *70 or higher on the Level 4 Technician Test If you fail the test you must wait at least 6 mos. To retake the test. • Willingness to invest time in training seminars and classes. • Adaptability: Manage competing demands and frequent changes in a fast paced work environment. • Maintain professional well groomed, workman like appearance with no visible tattoos or piercings • Maintain professional attitude at all times Required Tool List • RH LH Snips • Scratch Awl • Small Hammer • 2x Tape Measure • Flashlight • RH LH Offsets • Large screwdriver • Large Pliers • Black Sharpie • Cordless Drill w/bits • Crimper Kit • Hygrometer • Pulley removal set • Tap and Die set • Broken bolt/screw extraction • Extra set of refrigerant manifolds • Flat bar for aligning shafts and pulleys Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: • High School Diploma or Equivalent • Valid Texas Driver’s License and insurability by Company insurance carrier • Completion of HVAC trade school • 7 or more years of field experience as an HVAC Service Technician • EPA Certification • Nate Certification (preferred) Working Conditions: • Workweeks are 5 Days: Monday thru Friday • 1 hour of Unpaid Time for Lunch is recommended • Start Time is 8:00 AM, End Time is 5:00 PM • Overtime will be required on an as-needed basis • Travel and overnight stays may be required • On call duty and after hour calls are required Key Requirements: • Authorized to work in the U.S. - E-Verify System is used to verify employment eligibility • Will be subject to Pre-Employment drug and alcohol tests, MVR, background investigation and/or credit check Physical Requirements: Often Carries or moves objects weighing up to 70 pounds with or without the aid of equipment.
