About the role
Permanent Part-Time - 60 hours per fortnight This role is based on 60 hours per fortnight, with some flexibility in hours to accommodate operational requirements, seasonal demands, and agreed arrangements with the successful candidate. The Opportunity We’re looking for someone friendly, flexible, and passionate about Gore to join our Visitor Centre team. If you enjoy helping people, sharing local knowledge, and working in a dynamic environment, this could be the perfect role for you. You’ll be the go-to person for visitors, helping with travel bookings, selling souvenirs, and recommending must-see attractions. One day you might be at the Old Hokonui Moonshine Museum & Distillery, the next at Croydon Aviation Heritage Centre, and soon, at the Māruawai Centre! Requirements To be successful in this role, you will have: Experience in customer-facing roles (tourism, retail, or hospitality preferred) A friendly, helpful, and approachable attitude Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays, and extra hours during peak seasons A willingness to obtain a Manager’s license for the sale of alcohol Strong communication and interpersonal skills A genuine passion for Gore and its attractions Responsibilities In addition to the above you will: Deliver front-of-house services at the Visitor Centre and key attractions Assist with travel and accommodation bookings Promote Gore District’s attractions and experiences Provide excellent customer service to visitors Handle retail transactions and enquiries Support the team during busy tourist seasons Work across multiple sites depending on the roster Maintain a welcoming and informative environment Represent Gore District Council professionally Contribute to the success of local tourism initiatives Benefits Why work for us At Gore District Council, we’re committed to creating a vibrant and sustainable future for our community.
