Job Summary We are seeking an experienced R&D Engineer to join our team and drive innovation from early-stage concept through feasibility, prototyping, and technology transfer to production. This role focuses on exploring new ideas, testing hypotheses, and developing novel solutions to open-ended technical problems — often ahead of defined product requirements. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in ambiguity, enjoys hands-on experimentation, and can translate research findings into practical, manufacturable outcomes. Job Duties and Responsibilities Research, design, and prototype new concepts, materials, and technologies to solve open-ended technical problems Conduct feasibility studies and proof-of-concept builds to validate new ideas before committing to full product development Design and run experiments, tests, and simulations to characterize performance, failure modes, and design limits Build and iterate on prototypes rapidly, using both traditional and rapid prototyping methods (3D printing, machining, benchtop fixtures, etc.) Analyze test data and translate findings into actionable design recommendations Collaborate with design engineering and production/manufacturing engineering teams to transition successful R&D projects into producible designs Stay current with emerging technologies, materials, and industry trends relevant to the company's product roadmap Document research methodology, findings, and IP-relevant work (lab notebooks, technical reports, invention disclosures) Identify and mitigate technical risk early in the development cycle Present research findings and recommendations to engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
