POSITION SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Technician – Power Generation is a multi craft field maintenance role supporting AMP's mission critical power generation fleet at data center and other power generation sites. The position is primarily mechanical in nature but requires strong electrical troubleshooting capability. The technician performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on Dynamis gas turbine generator packages and associated balance of plant equipment to maximize safety, availability, reliability, and equipment life. AMP's Dynamis fleet includes aero derivative gas turbine packages such as the DT35 using the GE LM2500+G4 and larger packages such as the DT70 using the GE LM9000. The technician is expected to work across the complete package, not only the turbine, including mechanical auxiliaries, fuel systems, lubrication systems, hydraulics, cooling/ventilation, starting systems, generator auxiliaries, controls, instrumentation, low voltage electrical systems, and other site balance of plant equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The following duties and responsibilities are all essential job functions, as defined by the ADA, except for those that begin with the word "may")
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and corrective maintenance on Dynamis gas turbine generator packages and associated balance of plant equipment.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, replace, align, and service mechanical components including pumps, motors, valves, actuators, regulators, filters, strainers, piping, hoses, fittings, bearings, couplings, seals, fasteners, cooling/ventilation equipment, and other rotating or auxiliary equipment.
- Maintain turbine package lubrication systems, including oil levels, filters, pumps, coolers, valves, leaks, pressure/temperature issues, sampling support, and related instrumentation.
- Maintain and troubleshoot natural gas fuel systems within the technician's qualification and authorization, including valves, regulators, filters, actuators, piping components, instrumentation, leak checks, and fuel system auxiliaries.
- Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems used for package positioning, actuators, valves, starting or auxiliary functions, including leak detection, hose/fitting replacement, pressure checks, filtration, and component troubleshooting.
- Perform electrical troubleshooting and maintenance on low voltage AC/DC circuits, motors, motor starters, contactors, relays, fuses, breakers, power supplies, battery/charger systems, heaters, lighting, receptacles, solenoids, junction boxes, wiring, and package auxiliary systems.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation and controls using electrical drawings, schematics, I/O information, alarm/event history, and approved test equipment; inspect and replace sensors, switches, transmitters, thermocouples/RTDs, solenoids, and associated wiring as authorized.
- Support generator and excitation system inspections and troubleshooting within the technician's qualification level. Coordinate medium/high voltage or specialized generator electrical work with AMP HV personnel, Engineering, OEMs, or qualified contractors.
- Use multimeters, clamp meters, insulation resistance testers and other approved diagnostic instruments only within the employee's documented electrical qualification and equipment rating.
- Support turbine borescope inspections, filter changes, fluid changes, package inspections, combustion/turbine maintenance activities, and OEM service work as trained and authorized.
- Perform precision mechanical work using torque specifications, proper fastening practices, alignment techniques, measuring tools, and OEM procedures.
- Respond to equipment trips, alarms, derates, leaks, abnormal vibration, temperature/pressure deviations, starting failures, auxiliary system failures, and other conditions affecting generation availability.
- Support safe return to service activities after maintenance, including walkdowns, removal of tools/materials, restoration of guards, verification of system configuration, leak checks, functional checks, and coordination with Operations.
- Assist with commissioning, mobilization/demobilization, installation, startup, site acceptance, and maintenance outages for AMP generation equipment.
- Coordinate with Turbine Operators, Operations leadership, ROC/PSE, Engineering, HV Technicians, Field IT/controls resources, OEM technicians, and third party vendors during troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Maintain accurate work orders, inspection records, parts usage, measurements, test results, failure information, maintenance findings, and equipment history in AMP systems.
- Identify recurring failures and equipment reliability opportunities and provide field feedback to improve preventive maintenance intervals, procedures, spare parts strategy, and fleet reliability.
- Maintain maintenance tools, calibrated test equipment, specialty tooling, shop/maintenance areas, and assigned service vehicles in safe and serviceable condition.
- Participate in pre job briefings/JHAs and exercise stop work authority when hazards, energy control boundaries, PPE, procedures, tooling, or site conditions do not support safe execution.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to assist with successful operations and business continuity.
