POSITION SUMMARY:
The High Voltage (HV) Technician supports Accelerated Mobile Power's (AMP) field power generation operations at mission critical data center sites. This role is responsible for the safe operation, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, commissioning support, and switching of medium voltage electrical systems associated with AMP owned generation assets and large power transformers. AMP's initial transformer configuration includes an outdoor oil filled 36/48/60 MVA power transformer with a 13.8 kV delta primary, 34.5 kV grounded wye secondary, copper windings, and an on load tap changer (OLTC). The role also supports associated 15 kV and 35 kV class switchgear, breakers, protective relays, grounding systems, cables, and balance of plant equipment. Future AMP sites may use different transformer ratings or system voltages, so qualification remains task , equipment , and voltage specific.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The following duties and responsibilities are all essential job functions, as defined by the ADA, except for those that begin with the word "may")
- Operate and maintain AMP owned transformers and high voltage distribution systems serving data center power generation sites, including transformers, switchgear, breakers, disconnects, bus, cable systems, grounding systems, surge arresters, instrument transformers, and associated auxiliary equipment.
- Perform authorized switching, isolation, verification of absence of voltage, grounding, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and return to service activities in accordance with approved switching orders, one line diagrams, site procedures, and electrical safe work practices.
- Conduct routine inspections and condition assessments for leaks, abnormal temperature, noise, odor, corona/arcing indicators, insulation damage, loose connections, contamination, grounding integrity, alarms, and other signs of degradation.
- Troubleshoot electrical faults and abnormal conditions using drawings, one lines, schematics, relay/event data, test equipment, and system operating information; coordinate escalation and restoration with Operations, Engineering, ROC/PSE, and OEM/vendor support.
- Support inspection, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of large oil filled power transformers, including bushings, radiators/cooling systems, fans/pumps, gauges, pressure relief/sudden pressure devices, oil levels, control cabinets, grounding, and on load tap changer (OLTC) systems. Coordinate transformer oil sampling and condition monitoring, including dissolved gas analysis (DGA), moisture, dielectric quality testing, and investigation of abnormal trends as directed.
- Support testing and maintenance of circuit breakers, protective relays, CTs/PTs, cables, grounding systems, batteries/DC control systems, and electrical interlocks. Understand the function of transformer differential, overcurrent, ground fault, temperature, liquid level, pressure/sudden pressure, and other transformer protection/alarm schemes (relay settings and protection engineering changes remain under the authority of designated Engineering/PSE personnel).
- Assist with commissioning, energization, de energization, acceptance testing, turnover, and startup of new data center generation sites and transformer/HV equipment. Support review or execution, within individual qualification limits, of transformer turns ratio testing, winding resistance testing, insulation resistance/power factor testing, CT verification, relay functional testing, phasing, grounding verification, control/alarm checks, and energization readiness (specialized testing may be performed by qualified third party testing organizations).
- Review and follow electrical one line diagrams, switching procedures, arc flash labels/studies, equipment manuals, test reports, and site specific operating procedures.
- Maintain accurate work orders, inspection records, switching logs, test results, deficiency reports, and maintenance documentation in AMP systems.
- Participate in pre job briefings/JHAs and exercise stop work authority when conditions, documentation, boundaries, PPE, system status, or work controls do not support safe execution.
- Coordinate third party electrical contractors and testing firms when assigned; verify scope, permits, isolation boundaries, site access, and work completion documentation.
- Respond to electrical outages and equipment failures and support safe, timely restoration of generation capacity for mission critical customer loads.
- Maintain tools, test equipment, insulating protective equipment, and PPE in serviceable condition and ensure required inspection, calibration, and test intervals are met.
- Support continuous improvement of AMP HV standards, switching practices, preventive maintenance plans, spare parts strategy, and lessons learned across the data center fleet.
- Perform authorized 34.5 kV switching and establish electrically safe work conditions only after completing AMP's equipment and site specific qualification and authorization process.
- Understand the operating characteristics of 13.8 kV delta to 34.5 kV grounded wye power transformers, including grounding, phase relationships, protection interfaces, transformer loading, cooling stages, and OLTC voltage regulation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to assist with successful operations and business continuity.
