General Function The lifeguard is responsible for upholding safety rules, Y policies, accident prevention and emergency response at YMCA pools. Job Responsibilities All lifeguards must remain physically and mentally alert, taking a proactive approach to searching for distressed swimmers and hazards. Successfully communicate with youth and adults to enforce rules and schedules. Give clear directions in case of emergency. Keep schedule availability up to date. Report for duty with proper with proper lifeguarding uniform. Activate EAP when necessary. Maintain safety of pool environment by removing any hazards that could lead to injury in and around the pool and pool deck. Maintain chemical logs. Mandatory in-service training attendance required. Lifeguards must remain physically capable of completing the prerequisite swim test as prescribed by the American Red Cross to ensure ability to respond to emergencies.
