Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist
Medical Records
Prefer 40 hrs./week (open to discussing 32 or 36 hrs. week)
Monday - Friday
Day Shift, 8am start time
Every 4th weekend, 8am - 5pm
1- 2 holidays/year
Must be able to travel to Harrisburg office on occasion

Essential Functions
Performs and oversees all daily medical records functions.
Utilizes the HIM ticketing system to process open tickets, respond to user’s requests and complete pending tickets. All incoming forms processing requests will be audited for completion and accuracy. Alert the user to any incomplete and/or incorrect documentation through use of the ticketing system.
Collaborates with the Inpatient Center to collect and process paper documentation.
Prioritizes admission documentation for audit and processing.
Uses the EHR and other electronic systems to collaborate with multiple departments.
Conducts ongoing quality assurance activities with all medical records in department to ensure accuracy and completeness of clinical records.
Completes chart audits to monitor and review compliance for interdisciplinary team meetings, general inpatient stays, admissions, continuous home care, and additional audits.
Processes and tracks provider orders, certifications, and addendums for signatures while collaborating with patients, family members, and other clinical staff members.
Accesses third-party EHR systems as needed to process requests from staff for collection of patient records and upload of patient records.
Assists with the assembly of patient care admissions folders.
Completes inventory checks for department supplies.
Monitors incoming e-fax to ensure they are processed timely.
Processes release of information requests for customers, to ensure medical information is in compliance with confidentiality and privacy policies and regulations.
Communicates with physicians or providers involved and distributes plan of care and additional clinical information to nursing homes.
Participates in the HIM orientation and training when needed. Cross-trains with all members of the department to provide backup.
Answers incoming phone calls while maintaining high levels of customer service.
Audits for completion and close discharged patient records. Ensuring all documentation is complete. Notifies providers involved in patient’s care of patient’s death or discharge according to regulations.
Takes initiative to enhance department procedures and capabilities.
Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays if needed and specified by supervisor.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Health Information Management.
