ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Policy Officer will provide critical support to the North America team in advancing ONE’s advocacy and policy objectives. This role involves research, data analysis, and high-level document preparation and drafting.
The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, with a good capacity to understand and synthetize complex policy issues into clear and compelling background materials, and capable of managing multiple priorities within a fast-paced, dynamic team environment. This is a full-time, opportunity reporting directly to Senior Director for Policy, North America and based in ONE’s Washington, D.C. office.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL
- Support the Senior Director for Policy and Government Relations teams in implementing ONE’s advocacy strategy, with a primary focus on the United States and some occasional support for ONE’s advocacy in Canada.
- Draft research reports and policy briefs that are usable and relevant for North American decision-makers on ONE’s main development issue areas: health and economic opportunities in Africa, including development finance, foreign aid, domestic and international health spending, trade and electricity access.
- Summarize findings, analyze data and draft recommendations. Review and edit documents to ensure clarity, accuracy, fact and data checking, and alignment with ONE’s messaging and strategic goals.
- Draft and manage the production of high-impact policy documents, such as flagship reports, content for ONE’s website, blog posts, talking points, and briefing materials for senior staff, in coordination with ONE’s Communication and Government Relations teams.
- Stay attuned to international development policy trends, especially around foreign aid, global health, development finance, trade and access to electricity in Africa, by attending and reporting on think tanks and other organizations’ events in Washington D.C.
