About the role

University School of Nashville Fitness Center Director July 2026 University School of Nashville invites candidates to apply for the position of Fitness Center Director. The Fitness Center Director is responsible for coordinating and supervising the operations and programming for the USN Fitness Center which serves students, faculty, and other members of the USN community. The Fitness Center Director teaches personal training classes, manages the equipment and facilities, and in collaboration with the physical education faculty and athletics coaches, provides instructional programming and support to middle and high school students. In addition, the Fitness Center Director serves as primary Strength Coach for all student athletes throughout the school year (including after school and summer breaks). This position reports to the Director of Athletics and is full-time (12 months), benefit eligible, and non-exempt. The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree, or equivalent education and experience in a related field, with a strong emphasis in health and fitness. Preference will be given to those candidates with experience working with school aged children (preferably in a K-12 school environment) and leading team workouts, as well as experience with fitness equipment usage procedures and maintenance plans. Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification are required. USN has a deep commitment to engaging the whole child in equitable and welcoming community spaces. Our students engage in the spaces best when they are valued and accepted for the whole person. Candidates should be knowledgeable of research on how implicit biases and belonging in race, ethnicity, gender identity and socioeconomic class can shape curricula and pedagogy, classroom culture, and student outcomes. Candidates should be able to translate that knowledge into demonstrable actions that promote equitable and just teaching and learning. USN is an independent, non-sectarian, co-educational day school with enrollment of 1,088 students kindergarten through 12th grade. In 1915, the George Peabody College for Teachers opened Peabody Demonstration School, USN’s predecessor, which earned acclaim for its curriculum and faculty. In 1974, Peabody College announced plans to close PDS, and a group of parents, alumni, students, and teachers reconstituted and re-chartered the school as University School of Nashville. USN’s midtown location next to Vanderbilt University and its Peabody College for Teachers reminds us every day of our 105-year-old roots in the demonstration school culture of innovation and educational best practices. It’s a vibrant educational community for both students and teachers in the midst of a dynamic city. A deep-rooted culture of achievement at USN means students expect much of each other and faculty benefit from that high standard. We seek employees who are enthusiastic about their own learning and we offer many opportunities for professional development. USN is committed to creating an institutional environment mirroring the cultural and ethnic composition of greater Nashville. USN encourages a diverse applicant pool and provides equal employment opportunities for employees and job applicants.
