About the role

GENERAL DESCRIPTION Responsible for performing a wide variety of complex welding functions. The individual should be familiar with gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and capable of using various types of welding equipment. A Senior Welder may also be responsible for assignment and oversight of the work of Welder I and Welder II positions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Essential functions are those tasks, duties, and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the jobs purpose and objectives. Essential functions are critical or fundamental to the performance of the job. They are the major functions for which the person in the job is held accountable. With little to no supervision, performs all duties of Welder at a consistently high proficiency. May assign and direct daily activities of Welder I and Welder II. Reads and interprets blueprints and machine drawings to determine specific welding requirements. Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by Work instructions. Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle. Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead positions. Examines weld for bead size, discontinuities or defects. Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes. Positions and clamps work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixtures. Tacks assemblies together. Clean weld and remove spatter. Performs all necessary daily operator maintenance on all equipment used in welding. Move parts in and move finished product out of welding area as needed.
