JOB TITLE: GROUP TRAINING INSTRUCTOR AND CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER – RECREATION DEPARTMENT CLASSIFICATION: PART-TIME, NON-EXEMPT SUPERVISOR: HEALTH & FITNESS MANAGER HOURS: 3 WEEKDAY MORNINGS/1 NOON POSITION PAY RANGE: $23.00/HR - $30.00/HR POSITION SUMMARY: The position of Group Training Instructor and Certified Personal Trainer is part-time and under the direct supervision of the Health & Fitness Manager. The Group Training Instructor and Certified Personal Trainer is responsible for leading Barrington Park District's popular Team Training classes (group training), providing education, making individual corrections to form, inspiring and motivating participants of all ages and fitness levels, encouraging, supporting and celebrating effort with the class and individuals and modeling a well-balanced, functional and FUN exercise program through positive coaching, energizing music and creative themes. The Group Training Instructor and Certified Personal Trainer will provide encouragement and motivation and work to build community in Team Training and with all participants in the Fitness Center, including those working out on the fitness floor, using the track, taking group fitness classes and enjoying open gym. The Group Training Instructor and Certified Personal Trainer is responsible for the supervision of the Fitness Center members using strength, stability and aerobic equipment. The Group Training Instructor and Certified Personal Trainer needs to be flexible and be able to execute various tasks in the Fitness Center. The Group Training Instructor and Certified Personal Trainer is expected to be a substitute for other instructor's Team Training classes when schedule permits and has the opportunity to work with one-on-one clients in addition to teaching Team Training classes. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Maintain Team Training rosters and communicate with participants with class reminders and about upcoming themes Communicate class numbers to fitness desk staff and provide class updates to Fitness Manager Weekly floor time maximum determined in relation to hours spent one-on-one training Provide specialty classes such as Team Training pop-up classes, educational clinics that focus on specific modalities, such as barbell training or kettlebell basics. Lead safe, effective and motivating Team Training classes that educate clients and promote a sense of community Schedule all Certified Personal Training appointments per procedure Confirm all Certified Personal Training appointments for the next business day Contact new clients within 24 hours after assigned by Health & Fitness Manager Administer Health Assessment/Strength and Flexibility testing Assist with all Floor Training responsibilities listed below: ü Supervise Fitness Center members on the use of the strength and aerobic equipment ü Assist Fitness Manager with special projects or tasks as needed ü Greet members ü Maintain a neat and orderly facility ü Confirm Certified Personal Training appointments for the next business day ü Maintain necessary forms and manuals including PAR-Qs, client sign-in sheets, client files including session notes, participant sign-in sheets, timesheets, schedule forms, exercise logs, and training schedules Maintain client personal training files in client folders and store in Fitness Center per procedure Conduct new member orientations and Fit Teen orientations Sub Team Training classes as needed and Group Exercise classes if qualified to teach ü Assist other Certified Personal Trainers if help is needed ü Attend all mandatory staff meetings Complete the assigned equipment cleaning procedures Be punctual and prepared for each Certified Personal Training session Review PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) for each client and store in designated, secure location in Fitness Center Follow all procedures and guidelines as presented in the policy manual Wear proper uniform while training Attend staff training and/or staff development sessions Attend special Fitness Center events Provide fitness challenges, trainer tips and other newsletter entries Create and lead educational and interactive workshops for patrons and/or staff Perform any other duties, as assigned by Health and Fitness Manager
