About the role

General Nature of Work The Convenience Center Attendant will provide customer service and direct Gilmer County citizens in disposing of waste, recyclables, etc., does related work as required. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Communicate openly and effectively with residents and staff to give a positive representation of Gilmer County. Directs residents in the proper location of disposal materials. (Household waste, metals, refrigerators, stoves, air conditioners, newspapers, glass and plastics, tires, brush and wood.) Ensure that unacceptable waste is not accepted at the disposal facility. Ensure grounds are free from trash and debris; place such debris in proper receptables as needed. Properly secure the convenience center upon leaving the center. Notify appropriate personnel when containers become full. Compact trash in either garbage truck or compactor. Keep daily logs. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Provide assistance to other employees or departments as needed. Able to work “on call” as needed for emergency situations, floating may be needed. Additional duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of landfill maintenance principles, and grounds maintenance principles. Knowledge of established safety rules and departmental policies and procedures. SKILLS Skill in determining, calculating, and/or summarizing data/information. Skill in exchanging information for the purpose of clarifying details within well-established policies, procedures, and standards. Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, contractors, vendors, the public, or other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. ABILITIES Ability to work on a regular schedule and/or emergency basis. Ability to plan and prioritize to meet county deadlines. Ability to exercise judgement in situations characterized by repetitive or short cycle operations covered by well established procedures or sequences. Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information. Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Make simple arithmetic calculations. Accurately and consistently identify refuse loads and calculate fees. Ability to follow instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
