Senior Ruby Developer

Renewable Funding ( http://renewfund.com ) is a venture-backed startup whose mission is to advance climate neutrality, energy independence, and green job creation through the nationwide deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency finance programs. Our founders and executive management are in Oakland, CA. Our tech team is in Portland, OR. We are looking for senior Ruby developers for direct-hire positions in our Portland office. In this position, you will be a member of a small full-stack web app dev team that works closely with our product team to define, develop, and refine our software. You will also be expected to: contribute new ideas to rapidly evolving architectures help continuously improve our teamwork and development processes provide and receive technical guidance, mentoring, and training to/from your team members at all levels. We work on a wide variety of systems: public information websites, mobile sales tools, energy usage reporting tools, and back-end loan processing software. Our current project is a financial services call center system. We are Agile, though estimating isn't a huge focus. Our product owners have been well trained so we hum along pulling logically consistent stories from our queue. We architect collaboratively, pair occasionally, but mostly work solo with code reviews and pull requests. We try to keep knowledge silos to a minimum. Everyone works on everything. We work regular business hours on-site with the occasional coffee shop or work-from-home day. You are a skilled developer with: 5+ years building web applications using dynamic languages a firm grounding in web application development, object-oriented design patterns, and test/behavior-driven development. an understanding of the importance of continuous integration and automation. SQL and database design experience. Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience Ruby, Rails, Linux and/or BSD, Apache, PostgreSQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript Experience with and preference for agile development methodologies and tools such as Scrum, XP, kanban, Lean, etc. About Renewable Funding We take work quality and professional development seriously and also maintain a fun collaborative atmosphere with meals together, lunchtime bike rides, happy-hours, weekend hikes, and volunteer event participation; all optional.
