About the role
Sheraton Miami Airport Hotel & Executive Meeting Center is looking for an Accounting Clerk. This position is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the hotel, with primary responsibility for the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions. This role ensures all billing, collections, invoice processing, and account reconciliations are completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with company policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Working closely with hotel departments, clients, vendors, and the Finance team, this position helps maintain accurate financial records while supporting month-end close and other accounting initiatives. Essential Duties Accounts Receivable Prepare and issue timely and accurate invoices for all assigned direct bill accounts, with primary responsibility for billing large, contracted airline accounts and other corporate clients. Review supporting documentation and reconcile charges to ensure invoices are complete and accurate prior to billing. Maintain assigned customer accounts and ensure all billing activity is properly documented. Monitor Accounts Receivable aging reports and proactively follow up on outstanding balances to ensure timely collection of receivables. Communicate with airline representatives, corporate clients, and other customers to resolve billing discrepancies, payment questions, and account issues in a professional and timely manner. Maintain detailed collection notes and escalate delinquent accounts as appropriate. Reconcile customer accounts and assist with month-end Accounts Receivable reconciliations. Accounts Payable Review vendor invoices for accuracy and proper supporting documentation. Assign appropriate General Ledger account coding to invoices in accordance with company accounting policies. Process vendor invoices in a timely manner while ensuring expenses are recorded in the correct accounting period. Reconcile vendor statements and resolve invoice discrepancies with vendors and department managers. Coordinate with department managers to obtain approvals and resolve invoice discrepancies. Maintain organized vendor files and supporting documentation. Assist with vendor inquiries and ensure timely resolution of payment-related issues. Support month-end Accounts Payable close procedures, including accruals and invoice cutoffs. General Accounting Responsibilities Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities as assigned. Prepare account reconciliations and maintain supporting schedules. Maintain accurate accounting records, files, and documentation in accordance with company policies and internal controls. Assist with internal and external audits by providing requested documentation and support. Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting procedures, and applicable financial controls. Prepare reports, analyses, and schedules as requested by the Director of Finance or Assistant Director of Finance. Crosstrain and provide accounting support in other finance functions as needed. Perform various accounting projects and other duties assigned by supervisor.
