We’re looking for a pragmatic and business-minded Sr. Legal Counsel to join our in-house legal team. In this role, you will partner with teams across the organization to provide practical legal guidance, support commercial initiatives, and help manage legal risk in a fast-moving technology environment. You’ll work on a broad range of matters including commercial contracting, intellectual property, and regulatory issues while helping the business move forward with confidence. Experience with emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, and a strong understanding of internet law will be considered valuable assets.
What you'll be doing
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements across the organization, including services agreements, license agreements, NDAs, intercompany agreements, and corporate and related legal documentation.
- Provide clear, practical legal advice to internal stakeholders on commercial, technology and intellectual property matters, including matters related to emerging technologies (e.g., artificial intelligence, machine learning) and internet law.
- Support product, commercial, and strategic initiatives by identifying legal risks and proposing practical solutions.
- Conduct legal research and prepare concise guidance on applicable laws, regulations and emerging legal issues.
- Assist with discovery and due diligence in connection with litigation, audits, financing, and transactional matters.
- Support intellectual property enforcement activities, including cease-and-desist letters and domain name dispute processes (e.g., UDRP or URS).
- Monitor and advise on legal developments in the fields of artificial intelligence, data privacy, and internet law, to ensure compliance with evolving regulatory landscapes.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of contract templates, legal playbooks and internal processes.
What you'll need to be successful
Must haves
- 5-8 years of legal experience, ideally in commercial, technology, or intellectual property law.
- Member in good standing of the Quebec or Ontario Bar.
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to business stakeholders.
