Specialty Ecommerce Supervisor – High Value Goods Goodwill of Greater New York & Northern New Jersey Location: Hackensack, New Jersey Position Overview The Specialty Ecommerce Supervisor – High Value Goods is responsible for overseeing the evaluation, authentication, testing, listing, pricing, and sale of high-value donated merchandise within Goodwill’s ecommerce operation. This position leads a specialized team that processes luxury goods, jewelry, electronics, and other premium donated items, ensuring all products are accurately assessed, securely handled, and effectively marketed to maximize revenue and support Goodwill’s mission. This role is critical to safeguarding company assets through strong inventory controls, authentication procedures, and quality standards. The ideal candidate combines product expertise, operational excellence, and leadership skills to drive performance while maintaining customer trust and marketplace compliance. Key Responsibilities Specialty Product Operations • Oversee daily operations for specialty ecommerce categories, including: ◦ Luxury and designer goods authentication ◦ Jewelry ◦ Electronics • Supervise team members responsible for sorting, testing, authenticating, pricing, listing, and selling high-value items. • Ensure specialty merchandise is evaluated and processed according to established category-specific standards. • Maintain strict chain-of-custody procedures for high-value inventory. • Verify that products are thoroughly tested, accurately documented, and properly represented in online listings. • Review and approve complex listings to ensure accuracy and maximize sales potential. • Utilize market research, historical sales data, and marketplace trends to establish competitive pricing strategies. • Ensure merchandise is securely stored and protected throughout the processing cycle. Asset Protection & Inventory Control • Maintain secure handling, storage, and tracking processes for high-value inventory. • Enforce asset protection protocols, including: ◦ Secure storage areas ◦ Controlled inventory access ◦ Accurate inventory tracking and documentation ◦ Verification of testing and authentication records • Conduct routine inventory audits to identify discrepancies and prevent loss. • Ensure products are stored and handled in a manner that preserves condition and value. • Partner with leadership to investigate inventory variances, potential theft, or asset loss. Quality Assurance & Compliance • Ensure all listings accurately represent item condition, authenticity, and functionality. • Verify that authentication and testing procedures comply with marketplace standards and internal policies. • Review product descriptions, testing results, and condition notes for accuracy and completeness. • Monitor customer feedback, returns, and disputes related to specialty categories and implement corrective actions as needed. • Maintain compliance with ecommerce platform requirements and Goodwill policies. Team Leadership & Development • Lead, train, coach, and develop team members responsible for specialty ecommerce categories. • Build employee expertise in product evaluation, authentication, testing procedures, pricing strategies, and listing quality. • Provide ongoing coaching around: ◦ Luxury goods authentication ◦ Jewelry evaluation ◦ Electronics testing ◦ Advanced ecommerce listing techniques • Promote a culture of accountability, quality, asset stewardship, and continuous improvement. • Monitor team performance and provide regular feedback to support professional growth. Business Performance & Revenue Growth • Drive revenue growth through effective identification and monetization of high-value donated goods. • Identify opportunities to improve value recovery through enhanced testing, strategic pricing, bundling, and marketplace selection. • Monitor key performance indicators, including sell-through rate, average selling price, listing quality, and inventory turnover. • Analyze category performance trends and implement process improvements to increase profitability. • Stay current on secondary-market trends, luxury resale values, consumer demand, and emerging product categories. Qualifications Required Experience • Minimum of 3 years of experience in ecommerce, resale retail, specialty merchandise, or a related field. • Experience working with luxury goods, jewelry, electronics, or authentication processes strongly preferred. • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience managing operational teams. • Experience creating, reviewing, or managing complex ecommerce listings. • Experience evaluating product condition, testing functionality, or verifying authenticity. • Experience with ecommerce marketplaces such as ShopGoodwill, eBay, Amazon, or similar platforms preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Strong knowledge of resale markets, product valuation, and secondary-market trends. • Ability to identify high-value merchandise and maximize resale opportunities. • Experience with authentication, testing, appraisal, or product verification processes. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to inventory accuracy. • Demonstrated ability to maintain strict asset control and loss-prevention practices. • Excellent leadership, coaching, and team development skills. • Strong organizational, analytical, and inventory management abilities. • Effective written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to work responsibly with valuable merchandise and confidential information. • Commitment to Goodwill’s mission, values, and customer service standards. Physical Requirements • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods. • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. • Ability to safely handle, examine, and process donated merchandise of varying sizes and weights.
