About the role

Job Description Summary/Objective: CNS is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team, where you will play a pivotal role in coordinating the mechanical design process for various projects. You will be responsible for conducting energy audits, analyzing building systems for efficiency, and overseeing mechanical system design throughout all stages of a project. This role involves close collaboration with multiple disciplines, conducting site visits, and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations. You will also contribute to the ongoing improvement of system designs, ensuring they meet project specifications and energy efficiency goals. Mechanical Design & Coordination: Coordinate the work of the mechanical design team during the schematic design development and contract document phases of a project. Review mechanical documents for conflicts with other disciplines and propose resolutions. Write and edit mechanical specifications, select equipment, mechanical systems, and devices. Provide guidance and QA/QC on the work of Mechanical Project Engineers, Mechanical Project Coordinators, or Mechanical CAD Technicians as needed. Conduct work sessions at the project site with the Project Manager and other disciplines to ensure proper integration and project success. Coordinate and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs, change orders, and incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents. Provide construction contract administration support as needed. Energy Audits & Assessments: Conduct energy audits for buildings or systems to identify areas where energy is wasted and propose solutions to improve energy efficiency. Analyze building systems to pinpoint inefficiencies and work towards enhancing overall energy performance. Participate in reviews with governing agencies to ensure code compliance. Collaboration & Communication: Establish meetings and participate in discussions with governing agencies, clients, and other project stakeholders for code compliance and project progress. Coordinate and ensure the timely completion of mechanical design documents on schedule. Communicate project updates to stakeholders, including progress on energy audits, design changes, and system improvements. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with a Mechanical emphasis. A minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical system design for commercial or institutional buildings. Have a P.E. (Professional Engineer) license. Experience with healthcare, science and technology, or civic facilities. Interest in or experience with sustainable design/LEED certification is desired but not required.
