About the role
In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Nuclear Medicine Technology Assistant is responsible for providing administrative, clinical support, and patient care assistance to the Nuclear Medicine department to promote efficient workflow and high-quality patient care. This role is responsible for coordinating patient scheduling and documentation, facilitating communication between departments, supporting technologists and nursing staff with patient preparation and transport, maintaining supplies and equipment, and performing clerical functions necessary for daily department operations. The Nuclear Medicine Technology Assistant helps maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment while adhering to departmental policies, infection prevention practices, radiation safety protocols, and the principles of ALARA to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and the public. The position delivers compassionate patient interactions and contributes to a collaborative, patient-centered healthcare team. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times. Job Functions: Performs clerical functions including maintaining patient history worksheets, patient reminder calls, answering telephones, Merge Cardio reporting, Meditech scheduling of inpatients, PACscan, and entering provider orders in Meditech. Coordinates patient flow and flow of information in collaboration with the technologists and nurses to maintain communication between departments. Assists with all aspects of patient care and non-patient care (i.e. cleanliness of unit, ordering of supplies, stocking supplies, stocking linens, prepping imaging table) within their scope of practice as assigned by technologist and nurses. Safely transfers patient to and from carts, beds, wheelchairs, utilizing proper body mechanics and lifting devices as available and as needed. Assists with patient/family teaching as appropriate. Assists with the maintenance of supplies and equipment. Enters daily patient charges and validates charge reconciliation. Complies with all safety and infection control standards related to position. Utilizes appropriate interpersonal communication which facilitates productive relationships with other team members. Seeks help from appropriate resources as needed. Maintains open lines of communication between self and professional staff. Clarifies any unclear communication between members of the healthcare team. Uses proper channels of authority in communicating information. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
