About the role

In the appointment of Student Assistant, your general duties and responsibilities will be: Provide one or more of the following, determined according to tutor preferences, qualifications, and availability: Your general location of work will be in the University Library, and you will report to Liv Marken, University Library. Required Number of Hours : Hours of work vary according to work volume and tutor availability. Maximum 12 hours a week. Duration of Employment : Fall and Winter session 2026-2027. Qualifications (Skills and Abilities) A minimum of an undergraduate degree in any discipline, while maintaining an average of 85% or higher in writing-intensive courses. Must be a graduate student registered in both fall and winter terms, 2026-27. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, time management, and organizational skills. Training and/or qualifications in any of the following areas are an asset, but not required (training provided in position where needed): experience, knowledge, and/or understanding of Indigenous cultural contexts and histories; education in/knowledge of principles of Equity, Diversity, Accessibility, and Inclusion; education and experience instructing English as an additional language; fluency in one or more languages besides English; knowledge of assistive technologies such as Read and Write software; education in critical artificial intelligence literacies; experience and/or training in helping students with disabilities; training in composition theory and practice and/or rhetorical communication; training in oratory or public speaking; experience in writing centre or university student services contexts; experience with one-to-one and/or group instruction in argumentation, grammar, mechanics, punctuation, editing, proofreading; education in tutoring techniques and pedagogy; intercultural competencies; experience as a peer academic mentor; knowledge of science and technical writing; and detailed knowledge of APA, MLA and/or Chicago Manual of Style (notes-bibliography).
