On-Call Requirement: Yes – 30-minute response time required FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Director: Surgical Services Location: Pagosa Springs Medical Center – Pagosa Springs, Colorado Position Summary Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Surgical Services team. The Perioperative RN is responsible for coordinating and delivering safe, effective, patient-centered care throughout the surgical continuum , including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases. This role serves as a key liaison between the surgical team and patients, ensuring optimal outcomes through a multidisciplinary approach. This position may function as a Circulating Nurse, Scrub Nurse, or Assistant Scrub , depending on experience and competency. Schedule Highlights Full-time position (40+ hours per week) Weekday schedule – no regularly scheduled weekends or holidays On-call rotation required with a 30-minute response time Occasional call-back may include evenings, weekends, or holidays Enjoy a more predictable schedule compared to traditional hospital OR roles Key Responsibilities Perioperative Patient Care Provide comprehensive nursing care throughout pre-op, intra-op, and post-op phases Perform patient assessments, develop care plans, and monitor patient response Ensure all surgical consents and documentation are complete and accurate Act as a patient advocate throughout the surgical experience Intraoperative Nursing (Circulator Role) Maintain a safe surgical environment outside the sterile field Coordinate surgical team activities and ensure procedural efficiency Assist with patient positioning, surgical prep, and intraoperative monitoring Communicate patient status to surgical team and family as appropriate Surgical Support & Sterile Technique Assist in establishing and maintaining sterile fields Perform scrub role duties based on experience and competency Assist anesthesia during induction and recovery phases Ensure proper handling of specimens and surgical instruments Safety & Quality Follow National Patient Safety Goals and infection prevention protocols Ensure correct patient, procedure, site, and documentation verification Prevent retained surgical items through proper counting procedures Maintain surgical asepsis and reduce risk of infection Team Collaboration & Leadership Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, surgical techs, and interdisciplinary teams Assist in supervision and support of surgical support staff Participate in staff education, training, and mentoring Support departmental quality improvement initiatives Join a Hospital That Feels Like Family – In a Town That Feels Like Home Pagosa Springs Medical Center is an award-winning, independent Critical Access Hospital serving the residents and visitors of Archuleta County and the surrounding region.
