We are looking for passionate teachers in Yale for our Engineering courses for students aged 13-15 and 16-18. These are practical, hands-on courses which give students insights into different engineering fields including mechanical, civil, electrical and structural engineering, as well as developing the skills and knowledge to succeed in their studies and future careers in engineering. These career-insight courses are designed to be future-focused in order to inspire students about new and upcoming developments within engineering and technology.

Position details

We are looking for Teachers available in Yale for the month of July; courses are two weeks in length, with sessions from July 3rd - July 15th and July 16th - July 30th.

Roles will amount to 80 hours per two-week session, made up of;

  • 35 core teaching hours per session (17.5 hours per week). There is between 2.5 - 4 hours of teaching each day; lessons take place every morning Monday to Friday and some afternoons across each two-week session.
  • In additional to core teaching hours, you will also be invited to take on an additional 45 hours per session split into enrichment (25 hours) and pastoral (20 hours) delivery. The precise timetable for any additional pastoral hours will be set by the Programme Director on Campus.

There will be compulsory online training to complete before starting the role, as well as in-person training in the week before the program begins. You may also be required to attend campus meetings during the session.

Core teaching responsibilities

  • To guide students through the course with enthusiasm, inspiring and motivating students through excellent subject knowledge and use of a range of up-to-date resources and case studies
  • To prepare lessons in line with learning objectives and course information in the provided Course Guides. Whilst key teaching materials are provided, teachers are expected to use these materials as a guide and adapt their lesson plans to their students’ interests and to contribute their own expertise and knowledge from the field.
  • To ensure that every student makes progress in the course, making adaptations to tasks where necessary to achieve this.
  • To mark assignments and complete personalised reports for every student.
  • To complete daily student registers and other administrative processes as required.
  • To lead students in course-related Field Trips or practical activities.
  • To collaborate with the wider teaching faculty for shared ideas and cross-class engagement, and work with the wider campus team to create an outstanding learning environment.

Responsibilities for additional pastoral hours:

  • Delivery of subject-related or study skill workshops which form part of our academic enrichment program. This could include being part of a panel or Q&A careers session with our students, delivering a talk on your own area of work or research, or supporting a debating club.
  • Provision of pastoral support and supervision of students outside of lesson hours, which may include assisting on excursions, during welcome and graduation events, or running social activities in afternoon and evenings.
