Wilson College is seeking an energetic, innovative, and student-focused professional to serve as our next Director of Esports . This is an exciting opportunity to lead and grow a competitive collegiate Esports program while making a meaningful impact on student success, leadership development, and campus engagement. The Director of Esports provides strategic leadership for all aspects of the College's Esports program, including coaching, recruitment, program administration, student development, facility oversight, and conference participation. The successful candidate will build a culture of competitive excellence, academic achievement, sportsmanship, and belonging while supporting Wilson College's mission of developing future leaders. Essential Functions The Director of Esports will: Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of Wilson College's competitive Esports program. Serve as Head Coach for at least one competitive Esports team while providing leadership and oversight to additional coaching staff. Recruit, retain, and mentor academically qualified student competitors who contribute to both team success and institutional enrollment goals. Develop practice plans, competition strategies, and team development initiatives that promote competitive excellence and student growth. Manage conference affiliations, schedules, eligibility requirements, and program compliance. Oversee the Esports arena, gaming equipment, technology, and related facilities. Develop and manage the annual operating budget while exercising responsible stewardship of College resources. Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches, student employees, and volunteers. Collaborate with Enrollment Management to support recruiting initiatives, admissions events, and prospective student outreach. Represent Wilson College at conferences, tournaments, recruiting events, and professional organizations. Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that supports student success, leadership development, and personal well-being. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Division of Student Development. Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn collegiate Esports conferences, competition structures, and eligibility requirements. Experience managing budgets, equipment, and program resources. Strong technology skills, including familiarity with gaming platforms, Microsoft Office, and administrative software. Ability to build collaborative relationships across campus and with external partners. Commitment to creating an inclusive, student-centered environment. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and occasional travel schedules. Supervisory Responsibilities This position directly supervises assistant coaches, student employees, volunteer coaches, and game staff. Responsibilities include recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance management, mentoring, and fostering a positive team culture consistent with Wilson College's mission and values. Position Type & Expected Hours of Work Full-Time, Exempt 11-Month Appointment Typical schedule is 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. , with flexibility based on competitions, recruiting events, campus activities, and operational needs. Evening and weekend work is expected throughout the academic year. Travel Occasional travel is required for conference competitions, recruiting events, tournaments, professional development opportunities, and other program-related activities. Education & Experience Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field (master's degree preferred). Two to four years of successful coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level. Experience recruiting and mentoring student-athletes or competitive gamers. Experience managing budgets, facilities, or student programs is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
