About the role The role of the EAL Teacher is to build and maintain a successful program, whereby non-native English speakers are supported across the school. The teacher will plan and prepare lessons and support sessions for children in KS3 in line with the EAL policy. EAL lessons will focus on developing the four language skills and include the teaching of speaking and listening, grammar, vocabulary, and writing. The EAL teacher will work closely with class teachers, specialists and teaching assistants to ensure children are fully supported across the curriculum. Responsibilities Teaching Learning Develop EAL students use of English so that they can access the curriculum and make excellent progress Model outstanding teaching and share collaborative planning and development, including the sharing of resources and best practice within the department Be accountable for student progress in English as an Additional Language across your class / year groups, ensuring that all students achieve results in line with, or better than, value-added predictions Monitor the identification of and provision for students with individual needs, and develop differentiated learning and teaching methods. Direct teaching, which embraces the individual needs of each child. Ensure teaching and learning are characterized by high expectations Identify highly effective classroom practice that supports EAL in their language learning whilst following an academic curriculum. To present an attractive, stimulating, tidy and safe learning environment in classrooms and displays in public areas Monitor student progress, evaluate the success of EAL strategies and identify areas for improvement Ensure that teachers have a clear picture of students’ EAL needs across your classes / year groups Marking books and other assessment of students progress in English language acquisition This description is not an exhaustive list and you will be expected to carry out any other reasonable tasks as directed by your line manager. Assessment, recording and reporting Conduct EAL assessments to identify CEFR levels, both summative and diagnostics Record summative data on EAL tracking documents Tracking of progress and to inform end of term reports/meetings with parents Identify EAL children and provision required in line with EAL policy and assessment data Set targets for raising achievement among all pupils Communication Communicate with parents on the progress of their child in the EAL program using school approved communication platforms. Generic Overall Responsibilities Promote high standards in all aspects of school life, particularly in pupil progress Actively support the vision, ethos, culture and policies of the school Inspire and motivate pupils, teachers and other school employees Contribute to a school culture which is positive, purposeful and professional Engage positively in the school appraisal process and performance management arrangements Be committed to safeguarding and to promoting the welfare of pupils and young people To attend school functions regularly and to set a good example To contribute to whole school marketing events such as Open Days and Educational Days Communicate with teachers, support staff and other assistants about student’s progress and other strategies that could be implemented in the classroom to support progress We are looking for a team member with the following; Education, training and qualifications Specialist qualification in teaching English as an additional language Ability to teach small groups effectively across age and ability range Appropriate degree, with UK PGCE, or other teaching qualification giving QTS Working knowledge of the National Curriculum of England Education, training and qualifications Evidence of relevant and challenging continuing professional development Relevant experience of successfully supporting English language development in an EAL setting.
