About the role
ROLE HIGHLIGHTS: - Title: AIT Technician - Department: Global Manufacturing Organisation - Location: Athens, Greece - Reporting to: Production Team Leader - Type of Contract: Permanent - Working model: On-site (occasional travel for environmental test and launch campaigns) - Employment is subject to applicable security screening (incl. SUPO, where required). WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS: The AIT Technician builds ICEYE's satellites. You perform the physical assembly, integration and test operations that turn qualified designs into flight-ready spacecraft, working to approved procedures in a cleanroom environment and taking personal responsibility for the quality, workmanship and traceability of everything you touch. Your focus is mechanical, thermal and harness integration: assembling structures and equipment, installing thermal hardware and multi-layer insulation, routing and connecting flight harnesses, and bringing subsystems together into a complete satellite. We are hiring at both Technician and Senior Technician level. Senior Technicians take on the more complex assemblies, lead frontline troubleshooting and coach the technicians around them. WHO WE ARE ICEYE is the world leader in sovereign intelligence from space. We deliver persistent monitoring capabilities to detect and respond to changes in any location on Earth. ICEYE owns the world's largest and most advanced SAR (synthetic aperture radar) satellite constellation. To our customers we provide intelligence with unmatched quality, latency and revisit times, in any weather, day or night. To governments who choose to operate their own constellation we provide this proven capability as a sovereign system. ICEYE-built constellations serve customers in defence and intelligence, environmental monitoring, insurance and emergency management. We enable fast decisions that contribute to a safer future. Founded and headquartered in Finland, ICEYE operates globally with over 1000 employees across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. YOUR DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES PREPARATION AND READINESS - Prepare each operation from the approved procedure, traveller and drawings, and check that the documentation matches the hardware in front of you before starting. - Verify hardware before use: part and serial numbers, quantity, physical condition, cleanliness, protections, fasteners and consumables. - Prepare and check the tools, torque equipment, MGSE, lifting and handling equipment and integration stands the activity needs. MECHANICAL AND THERMAL ASSEMBLY AND INTEGRATION - Assemble and install satellite structures, panels, brackets, equipment, payloads, mechanisms and thermal hardware to drawing and torque specification. - Integrate subsystems into the satellite, verifying fit, alignment and interfaces at each step. - Perform handling and lifting operations with MGSE, including satellite rotation, transfer between stands and installation on test adapters. HARNESS, THERMAL HARDWARE AND MLI - Route, install and connect flight harnesses, including crimping, soldering, shielding, connector mating and identification. - Perform electrical verification of harnesses, including continuity, insulation and short-circuit checks. - Install thermal hardware including heaters, thermistors and thermal interface materials, and fabricate, install and repair multi-layer insulation, including bonding and taping operations. TEST PREPARATION AND SUPPORT - Prepare satellite configurations for functional and environmental testing, including installation on test adapters and mechanical interfaces. - Set up and connect EGSE and test benches, support test execution, monitor parameters and report anomalies immediately. - Support environmental and launch campaigns on site and off site, including packing, transport preparation and reinstallation. QUALITY, TRACEABILITY AND NON-CONFORMANCE - Record every operation in real time: as-run procedures, logbooks, photographs, and hardware and software configuration, in Manufacturo (MES) and Jira. - Perform compliance checks and visual inspections at each critical step, and complete the associated checklists and records. - Raise non-conformance reports for any deviation, contribute to first-level investigation, and support root cause analysis and corrective action. CLEANROOM, SAFETY AND 6S - Work to cleanroom, contamination control, ESD, FOD and chemical safety rules, and keep the work area compliant, clean and audit-ready. - Maintain 6S in the production stations, and report anything that makes an area unsafe or unfit for flight hardware. IMPROVEMENT AND TEAM - Review work instructions, travellers and checklists against what actually happens on the floor, and give clear feedback so they can be corrected. - Support on-the-job training of junior colleagues and share good practice. Senior Technicians coach the team and lead frontline troubleshooting. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR MUST HAVES: - Vocational or technical qualification in mechanical, electrical, electronics, mechatronics or a related field, or equivalent hands-on training. - Hands-on experience in the assembly, integration or test of complex electromechanical hardware. We are hiring at two levels: around 2+ years for Technician, and around 5+ years with demonstrated autonomy for Senior Technician. - Practical skill in precision mechanical assembly and thermal hardware installation, working to drawings and torque specifications. - Practical skill in harness work: crimping, soldering, shielding, connector mating and routing. - Ability to read and work from mechanical and electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, procedures and work instructions. - Experience with electrical verification, including continuity, insulation and short-circuit checks. - Understanding of cleanroom, contamination control and ESD requirements. - Discipline in documentation and traceability, recording work performed in real time rather than afterwards. - Experience raising and documenting non-conformances. - Comfortable using an MES and Jira for work records. We use Manufacturo and Jira; experience with equivalent systems is fine. - Hands-on mindset with strong attention to detail, and the judgement to stop and ask rather than proceed on an assumption. - Strong communication skills in English (written & spoken). NICE TO HAVES: - Experience on flight hardware in a satellite or other space environment. - Multi-layer insulation fabrication and installation experience. - Familiarity with workmanship standards such as IPC-A-610, IPC J-STD-001, IPC-7711/7721 or IPC/WHMA-A-620. - Familiarity with ECSS, NASA or military quality standards. - Experience supporting functional test: EGSE connection, test sequence execution and telemetry monitoring. - Experience with environmental test campaigns (vibration, thermal vacuum) or launch campaigns. - Awareness of 6S and good practice in production area organisation. APPLICATION PROCESS - Talent Acquisition Interview - Hiring Manager General Interview - Technical Interview (onsite or virtual), including a Technical Challenge - Leadership & Hiring Team Interview WORKING AT ICEYE At ICEYE, you’ll join a diverse and highly engaged team united by the ambition to make the impossible possible.
