About the role

Dive in and do the best work of your career at DigitalOcean. Journey alongside a strong community of top talent who are relentless in their drive to build the simplest scalable cloud. If you have a growth mindset, naturally like to think big and bold, and are energized by the fast-paced environment of a true industry disruptor, you’ll find your place here. We value winning together—while learning, having fun, and making a profound difference for the dreamers and builders in the world.

DigitalOcean is looking for a Senior IT Systems Engineer who is passionate about building scalable, secure, and automated IT systems that keep our business moving. This role combines enterprise SaaS administration with engineering, enabling you to own our core IT platform and applications while designing automations and integrations that improve operational efficiency and employee experience. You will partner closely with our system owners and domain admins to take business needs from idea to a running, well-operated system — some hosted on our own cloud infrastructure on DigitalOcean, and some delivered through SaaS platforms that we extend with integrations and automation.

This is a hands-on IT engineering role with real ownership. If you have a growth mindset, like to move fast and think big, and are energized by owning systems end to end — from build, to deploy, to host and run — this is a place where you'll do some of the best work of your career.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Own the administration, configuration, and lifecycle management of our core enterprise IT SaaS platform & application.
  • Design and build integrations between SaaS platforms and internal systems using APIs, webhooks, and event-driven patterns.
  • Build and deploy applications, including custom apps hosted on DigitalOcean for IT requirements (App Platform, Droplets, Managed Databases, Spaces, and Kubernetes/DOKS) and maintain its uptime, performance, backups, patching, cost, and security.
  • Stand up monitoring, logging, and alerting so issues are caught early, and respond to and resolve incidents on the systems in your remit.
  • Develop automation in and around our SaaS tools — provisioning, data synchronization, and workflow automation — to remove manual work and keep systems in sync, using automation, scripting or IAC.
  • Evaluate and recommend integration and automation tooling, choosing the right approach for each problem.
  • Coordinate with vendors on roadmap, escalations, and technical questions for the platforms you support.
  • Partner with system owners and domain admins to turn business requirements into technical solutions and a clear delivery plan.
  • Create and maintain clear technical documentation, runbooks, and standards so systems are supportable by the wider team.
  • Participate in a support escalation path for business-critical systems.

What You'll Add to DigitalOcean

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience administering enterprise SaaS platforms such as Okta, Okta Workflows, Google Workspace, Microsoft Intune, Jamf.
  • Practical experience hosting and running applications on a cloud platform — DigitalOcean is a strong plus; AWS, Azure, or GCP experience translates well.
  • Proficiency in at least one language used for automation and integration (e.g., Python, JavaScript/Node.js, PowerShell, Go).
  • Solid experience integrating SaaS systems via REST APIs, webhooks, and authentication patterns (OAuth, API keys, SSO/SCIM concepts)..
  • A track record of partnering with non-technical stakeholders to turn requirements into working systems, and of documenting your work so others can run it.
  • Strong ownership and problem-solving instincts — comfortable taking something from an ambiguous request to a running, monitored, supported production system.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Direct DigitalOcean experience - App Platform, Droplets, Managed Databases, Spaces, or DOKS.
  • Experience with iPaaS / workflow automation tools (e.g., Workato, Zapier, Make, Mulesoft, Boomi, Tray).
  • Familiarity with common business SaaS platforms and their APIs (e.g., Google Workspace, Okta, Slack, Salesforce, NetSuite, Workday).
  • Exposure to security and compliance practices for SaaS and cloud (access governance, least privilege, configuration auditing).
  • Familiarity with modern microservices and cloud-native environments.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
