About the role

Froid des Mascareignes (FDM) is a cold-storage company exclusively dedicated to seafood product storage which also offers packing and export services. The cluster represents IBL’s investments in the vertically integrated Mauritian tuna value chain. Being a considerable source of revenue for the group, as well as an important forex earner for the country, IBL Seafood will soon be converting its effluent into energy through Energie des Mascareignes, making its tuna operations the island’s first zero-waste industry from the fish caught to the final co-products, thus contributing to IBL’s sustainability objectives. Marine Biotechnology Products Côte d’Ivoire is part of the Cluster’s international expansion. Job Purpose The Frigorist is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration and cold storage equipment to ensure product quality, food safety, and uninterrupted operations. The ideal candidate should have experience in industrial refrigeration systems, strong troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities • Assist in cleaning, lubrication, and basic servicing of refrigeration systems. • Handle tools and materials during maintenance operations. • Observe senior technicians to gain practical knowledge. • Help in preparing equipment for maintenance tasks. • Record readings, pressures, or temperatures under instruction. • Support basic repair jobs (tightening connections, visual checks). • Report any observed irregularities immediately. • Understand safety basics, wear PPE, and follow instructions carefully. • Learn safe refrigerant handling by observing experienced staff. • Carry out small tasks such as labeling, insulation, or sealing. • Help carry, clean, or position equipment and tools. • Take basic readings (pressure/temperature) using standard instruments. • Assist in updating whiteboards or logs under direction. • Assist in basic form-filling or tagging during interventions. • Observe CMMS procedures for future learning. • Maintain cleanliness and organization of workshops and compressor areas. • Expected to be part of on-call duty with a senior maintenance personnel. • Possess fundamental awareness of electrical safety and components related to refrigeration (e.g., sensors, switches, motor starters). • Identify basic electrical faults and escalate to electricians or senior technicians as needed. • Assist in safe isolation procedures under supervision. • Perform general support tasks as assigned. • Plug in/out reefer units in a timely manner. Qualifications & Experience • National Trade Certificate (NTC Level 3) in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning or equivalent technical qualification. • At least 3 years’ experience in the relevant field • Having a valid motorcycle driving licence • Willing to work odd hours and under pressure • Passionate, energic, team player, honest and discipline. • Ability to work flexible hours when required.
