DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC: The Claflin University Department of Music is an institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) . The department is also accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). As a degree-granting department, we offer two major programs of study: BA in Music Education and BA in Music and a jazz studies concentration. RESPONSIBILITIES: This candidate would have the rank of Assistant Professor of Music Education, This person will serve as coordinator of the Music Education degree program. This position entails coordinating the Bachelor of Arts in Music Education degree program and assuming a senior leadership role in music education within the school. Responsibilities include teaching courses in music education, music methods, coordinating student internships, supervising student teachers, monitoring state certification requirements, and serving as a liaison for accreditation procedures with the school of education and relevant agencies. The successful candidate will also participate in the development of a proposal for a new Three Summers Master of Music Education degree and may teach in a secondary area based on expertise and departmental needs. Candidates must hold a terminal degree in music education and present a record of scholarly and/or administrative achievement, with a demonstrated capacity to continue research and creative activity at Claflin University.
