SVM - Instructor, Biomedical Sciences

Job Description Objective The faculty of St George's University School of Veterinary Medicine are dedicated to upholding the mission of providing an international, culturally diverse environment in which students learn the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for postgraduate training in the Veterinary profession while being inspired to develop compassion, curiosity, tolerance and a commitment to animals and society, a dedication to life-long learning and an understanding of the vital role of research in Veterinary Medicine. Essential Functions Instructional Activities: Deliver academic activities, including lectures and laboratory sessions as indicated by the Department Chair and the Dean of the School, including, but not limited to, the following courses/disciplines: The interdisciplinary VM510, VM520, and VM530 courses in spiral 1 (Term 1 – 3) and Spiral 2 (term 3 – 6) in the new system-based and integrated curriculum. Teaching in the subject areas of Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, and clinical skills (Hands on clinical practices) Teaching support in other knowledge areas such as professional skills and clinical skills across the system based integrated curriculum. Supplemental teaching In addition to teaching in the core courses for the DVM program, faculty will be required to support departmental teaching in the pre-veterinary program as well as the Integrated Team Instruction delivery of the DVM program – small groups-based curriculum delivery. Research and Scholarly Activities: Actively engage in research topics in a relevant area of biomedical sciences. Support student research and learning through supervision and mentoring selected/assigned students. Contribute to curriculum review and innovation. Practice continuous quality improvement of the courses and content delivered by the department. Active participation in scientific/educational conferences and Continued Education in Veterinary Medicine. Service: Participate in the following University activities: Departmental Reviews (as required). Faculty Meetings (as required). Special Committee Assignments (as assigned by the Dean). Administrative roles are assigned by the Department Chair and/or the Dean. Outreach efforts in the local community. Contribute to the academic advisory system for all students enrolled in the DVM program. Faculty Senate Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience with teaching veterinary biomedical sciences in the veterinary curriculum of an AVMA and/or RCVS accredited Veterinary School is desirable. Documented research experience in veterinary biomedical sciences with an excellent record of peer-reviewed publications and scholarship. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent collaboration, active listening, and problem-solving skills. Excellent team player skills. A commitment to the education of DVM and pre-veterinary students. Open to embracing new pedagogical approaches for teaching veterinary students.
