The Nurse Practitioner will provide independent and collaborative comprehensive and therapeutic health care services, integrating the art and science of nursing into medical practice. Position Snapshot Location: Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC), 1 Jarrett White Road, Honolulu, HI; Desmond Doss Health Clinic, Building 683/O, Waianae Ave, Schofield Barracks, HI; and Warrior Ohana Medical Home, 91-1010 Shangri-la St., Kapolei, HI. Department: Deputy Commander for Inpatient Services (DCIS) – Nursing Schedule: Service is provided in coordination with MTF operating hours; specific two-week schedules are provided one month in advance. Alternate work schedules and telework are not authorized. Holidays: May be required to work federally recognized holidays (compensated at the regular rate). Key Responsibilities Provide a full range of outcome-based nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF (screening, medical care/examinations for routine, acute, and chronic conditions across all organ systems; immunizations; diagnosis, treatment, and counseling). Technically direct and teach other staff; provide evidence-based educational lectures and in-service training. Diagnose and treat common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, clinical practice guidelines, and Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in consultation with a physician. Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care through education and counseling. Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group to inform the healthcare team and benefit the patient/family and organization; recognize conditions requiring isolation and ensure universal precautions. Provide medical management functions including assessment of acute, non-acute, and chronic diagnoses; new patient intake/screening; history and physical examination; laboratory and diagnostic study interpretation; ordering medications/treatments; and initiating therapeutic plans. Manage treatment plans and education for chronic conditions (e.g., coronary artery disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, obesity, hyperlipidemia, chronic kidney disease). Provide educational and preventive counseling to patients and families; oversee preventive healthcare compliance; refer high-risk/unstable/complex patients to physicians and emergency medicine; perform emergency care as appropriate.
