Assists in the departmental housekeeping and safety efforts, orders parts required to maintain repair part inventories, and works collaboratively with equipment repair mechanics, production counterparts, and vendors to ensure production workflow. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: • Must be competent with the use of PC, email, text messaging, internet research, and software-based maintenance. • Evaluate work environment for safe working conditions prior to any work being performed. • Responsible for Lockout and Arc Flash procedures. • Communicate with the maintenance supervisor, affected employees, plant leadership and maintenance mechanics on downtime, equipment issues, repair ETA’s, and parts and supply needs. • Maintain and improve department lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives. • Troubleshooting and repair of pneumatic and hydraulic systems. • Troubleshooting and repair of power transmission systems such as motors, gear reducers, couplers and precision shaft alignments. • Starts and tests equipment or machinery before returning it to production and works closely with maintenance technician. • Assists in the company's Preventative Maintenance Program and follows all safety rules and regulations. • Read precision measuring instruments such as micrometer, caliper, bore gauges, and dial indicators. • Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance is necessary in order to perform the essential functions of this position. SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Assist other mechanics in the performance of mechanical repairs as required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: • Must have all aspects of communications skills; interpersonal, written and verbal, for dealing with all levels of associates, and for writing reports, and reading instructions and parts manuals. Must also possess the following skills or aptitudes: • Fluid Power (pumps, valves, and pneumatics, and seals) repair and maintenance • Power transmission (bearings, brakes, clutches, drives, and lubrication) repair and maintenance • Troubleshooting • Hydraulics and pneumatics • Use of precision measuring equipment • Use of test equipment • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics • Ability to secure power and lock out equipment for maintenance procedures • Listening to what production counterparts are saying and asking questions as appropriate • Managing one's own time and taking initiative • Able to follow directions and meet deadlines • Ability to work in teams • Knowledge of OSHA and other regulatory agency protocols as they pertain to daily duties OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES • Hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical, some electrical skills are necessary. • The ability to read schematics and plans. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. • Experience operating large industrial equipment preferred. • One to two years’ experience in a heavy manufacturing environment preferred. MAINTENANCE MECHANIC I – this level of Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for providing mechanical maintenance work to machinery. Individuals in this position operate, work with and are around large industrial equipment. Training is provided and duties are routinely carried out under close supervision; however, close supervision is not always available for routine and repetitive tasks, and these tasks can be carried on without difficulty once they are learned. As work experience is gained, employee may be assigned to more advanced tasks that include more responsibility. MAINTENANCE MECHANIC II – this level of Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing duties described for a Maintenance Mechanic I. The qualifications and experience of this level of Mechanic must be at an intermediate to advanced level. Duties are carried out under limited to close supervision. As additional work experience is gained, the employee may be assigned to tasks that are more difficult in nature and require more responsibility. Employees in this position may be responsible for providing on-the-job training (OJT) to new employees. (This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.) • Stooping: Positions self to troubleshooting and chasing wires down on machinery.
