About the role

Summary/Objective: The CNA under the direction of the RN or LVN is primary responsible is to assist patients with their daily activities. The CNA’s role will be to maintain patient comfort and safety. Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Provides for activities of daily living by assisting with serving meals, feeding patients as necessary and ambulating, turning, and positioning patients; and providing fresh water and nourishment between meals. Maintains patient stability by checking vital signs and weight. Provides patient comfort by utilizing resources and materials; transporting patients; answering patients’ call lights and requests; and reporting observations of the patient to nursing supervisor. Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records. Maintains work operations by following policies and procedures. Protects organization’s value by keeping patient information confidential. Serves and protects the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures; federal, state, and local requirements; and CMS standards. Perform clerical duties on unit. Assist with ensuring patient and unit safety. Demonstrate the professionalism necessary to function in the healthcare environment. Demonstrate correct and safe technique in the use of equipment according to specific product information Follow appropriate procedure for obtaining and returning or cleaning/disposing of equipment and supplies. Remain conscientious in regard to personal hygiene and comply with specific division/unit regulations. Maintain positive working relationships within the department as well as other departments. Work in a stressful environment successfully by maintaining composure and professionalism. Stocks supplies. Assist med – surg staff with housekeeping duties as needed. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Interact professionally with patient/family and provides explanations and verbal reassurance. Attends staff meeting and all mandatory in-services. Competencies: Annual Competencies as delineated by CMS Additional Annual Competencies at the discretion of the Director of Med Surg Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibility. Work Environment: The Med Surg Unit consists of work areas and patient rooms that are well-lit and ventilated. May be exposed to communicable diseases. May experience traumatic and stressful situations, including psychiatric, dismembered and deceased patients.
