For more information, visit www.worldbank.org The Senior Natural Resources Management Specialist will play a key role in advancing the World Bank’s environment and natural resources management program in East Asia and the Pacific, combining both strategic and operational leadership, client engagement, cross-sector collaboration, and applied technical thought leadership. The position requires a professional who can bridge global knowledge and country-specific knowledge and solutions, drawing on multi-country experience to inform high-quality operations and policy dialogue. The role calls for a strong team player who can work effectively across disciplines and sectors, contribute to innovative solutions, and support countries in addressing complex environmental challenges related to pollution management, natural resource sustainability, and climate resilience. The position will span a great part of the new Country Partnership Strategy just presented to the Board and will therefore support the gradual transition from a focus on lending to a focus on knowledge generation and transfer. The ENV Practice within the EAP Planet Department delivers integrated lending, advisory, and analytical services to support more and better jobs and integrated financing solutions based on green, clean, and resilient development pathways. Duties and accountabilities: The Senior Natural Resources Management Specialist will: • Lead and contribute to project preparation, implementation, and supervision across a portfolio of complex lending and advisory operations, ensuring strong delivery, results orientation, and high-quality outcomes. • Contribute to global thought leadership and knowledge creation, including through analytical work, flagship contributions, and participation in global communities of practice and Academies, in coordination with and support of the Knowledge Bank. • Engage proactively with counterparts at national and sub-national levels to support high quality policy dialogue, program design, and implementation, bringing practical, client-focused solutions and innovations grounded in global experience and local context. • Play an active role in program development and strategic business alignment within the context of the China Annual Business Plan under the China CPF, identifying opportunities aligned with country priorities, regional and global agendas, including the different transitions of the WBG dialogue with China as guided under the CPF. • Provide strategic and technical leadership and quality assurance across operational and analytical work, ensuring rigor, relevance, and strong links between analytical outputs and implementation, while adding value through solid technical expertise. • Demonstrate ability to mobilize and apply global good practices, leveraging multi-country experience to bring relevant knowledge into country programs (“inbound knowledge”), while capturing and disseminating lessons from country engagements to inform global learning (“outbound knowledge”), including working closely with, mobilizing and contributing to, the China World Bank Global Center (CWGC). • Promote and contribute to cross-country learning and regional dialogue, facilitating South–South exchanges and scaling up innovative approaches across countries, particularly through the CWGC and other knowledge platforms. • Work effectively across Practices and sectors (e.g., infrastructure, agriculture, urban, and energy) to develop integrated and innovative solutions, embedding environmental and natural resources considerations into broader development programs. • Showcase strong collaboration and teamwork, building trust across multidisciplinary teams, supporting colleagues, and contributing to collective delivery. Actively participate as a team player, fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team environment. • Lead or contribute to Analytical and Advisory Activities and knowledge products, ensuring policy relevance and strong strategic linkage across the different workstreams. • Support institutional strengthening through innovative partnerships, knowledge exchange, and technical support to clients and stakeholders. • Represent the World Bank in technical forums, partnerships, and client engagements, strengthening relationships with national and sub-national governments, development partners, and knowledge institutions.
