About the role We currently have a Commercial Financial Analyst vacancy available in our Finance team. The role is based at our head office in Ellerslie. Reporting to the Commercial and Billing Manager, this is a pivotal analytical role responsible for protecting and improving Alexander Group's margin across our business divisions. This is a role that will heavily leverage AI; suited to someone who loves diving into data to understand financial performance, hunting out revenue leakage, and using modern digital tools to drive EBITDA-focused decisions. Key Responsibilities Proactively identify revenue leakage, under-recovery, and margin erosion across business divisions, recommending corrective action to protect EBITDA. Analyze operational actuals against contracts, linking financial performance with fleet, fuel, labor, and maintenance metrics. Own and manage the monthly Fuel Adjustment Factor (FAF) matrix to ensure accurate recovery against actual fuel spend. Produce regular planned-versus-actual variance analysis, P&L reviews, and executive-level performance reporting packs. Leverage AI, Power BI, and digital tools to build clear, automated, and repeatable reporting capabilities. Support the maintenance of budgets and forecasts by incorporating real-world operational and commercial assumptions. Provide clear analytical insights and recommendations to Operations and Senior Leadership without needing to manage external customer relationships. Actively be involved, implement, and adhere to all company health and safety policies and role model this throughout the business. For this role, you will have Minimum 2 years’ experience in a commercial, financial, or data analyst role. A tertiary qualification in commerce, finance, supply chain, or a related discipline. Advanced MS Excel skills, with hands-on Power BI experience highly desirable. Experience or exposure within transport, logistics, or an operational environment preferred. A genuine commercial instinct and investigative mindset aimed at uncovering efficiencies and margin improvements. Enthusiasm for using AI and automation tools to make reporting smarter and faster. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the resilience and focus to work collaboratively under tight deadlines.
