About the role
The Quality Engineer in the event fabrication workshop is responsible for ensuring that all fabricated elements — event structures, exhibition stands, scenic sets, and custom props — meet defined quality, finish, and structural standards before dispatch or on-site installation. Working under the Quality Manager, this role conducts inspections at key production stages, identifies non-conformances, drives corrective actions, and supports a culture of quality across all workshop disciplines. The ideal candidate combines a sharp technical eye with strong knowledge of fabrication processes and a systematic approach to quality assurance in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Key Responsibilities 1. Quality Inspection & Control In-Process Inspections: Conduct structured quality checks at defined production stages across carpentry, metalwork, printing, foam work, and painting. Pre-Dispatch Inspection: Perform final QC checks on all finished items before dispatch, verifying compliance with approved technical drawings and client-approved samples. On-Site QC Support: Carry out quality inspections during and after installation to confirm installed elements meet design and finish standards. Drawing Verification: Cross-reference fabricated outputs against technical drawings, specifications, and approved mock-ups. 2. Non-Conformance & Corrective Action Non-Conformance Reporting (NCR): Document, log, and track all quality defects or non-conformances identified during production. Root Cause Analysis: Investigate recurring quality issues and identify root causes to support corrective and preventive actions. Rework Coordination: Liaise with the Production Manager to prioritize and oversee rework tasks, ensuring corrected items meet quality standards before re-inspection. 3. Quality Systems & Documentation Inspection Records: Maintain accurate inspection logs, QC checklists, and defect reports for all projects. Quality Standards: Support the Quality Manager in developing, updating, and communicating quality standards, work instructions, and inspection criteria. Reporting: Prepare daily and project-level quality status reports for submission to the Quality Manager. 4. Process Improvement Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve fabrication processes, reduce defect rates, and improve first-pass quality. Training Support: Assist in conducting quality awareness sessions and on-the-floor coaching for workshop staff. 5. Health, Safety & Compliance (HSE) Safety Compliance: Adhere to all HSE protocols during inspections in both workshop and on-site environments. Hazard Identification: Flag any quality or safety hazards observed during inspections to the relevant manager. • Experience: 3–5 years of quality assurance or quality control experience in an event fabrication, fit-out, manufacturing, or construction environment. • Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of fabrication techniques across carpentry, metalwork, printing, foam work, and painting. • Drawing Reading: Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and approved samples. • QC Tools: Familiarity with inspection tools and measurement equipment; experience with NCR systems and QC documentation. • Attention to Detail: Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and the ability to identify defects and inconsistencies. • Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with quality management software is a plus. • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field preferred; ISO 9001 awareness or auditor certification is an advantage. • Methodical, assertive, and effective communicator capable of working across multiple teams and disciplines Typical Working Conditions • Environment: Must be able to work in a workshop environment, which may include loud noise, dust, and heat, with some on-site installation work. • Hours: May require working evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet event deadlines. • Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle tight deadlines and to work on site, which may include lifting, standing for long periods, and working in varied conditions.
