About the role

Reports To: General Manager FLSA Status: Exempt Position Summary The Chief Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the maintenance of the hotel’s building and grounds and the operation of its equipment and mechanical/electrical systems, as well as the overall safety and security of the hotel and its associates. Responsibilities Reviews maintenance problems, complaints, and work orders to prioritize and schedule work assignments Monitors and inspects assigned work Performs troubleshooting, diagnostics and repairs of malfunctioning electrical/mechanical systems and equipment Inspects property to identify potential and current needs Plans and executes ongoing maintenance programs Estimates department expenditures for budget purposes and assists with the capital budget process Solicits bids from contractors, evaluates their proposals and ensures work is completed to specifications Coordinates with local health, safety, fire and building inspectors to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and regulations Performs preventative maintenance assignments on a scheduled basis Services the hotel’s pool, including adjusting chemicals and cleaning filters Completes maintenance logs and updates all vendor/contractor files Maintains the building exterior if not serviced by a contractor (e.g. snow removal, lawn care, painting) Maintains a passing score on the Quality Hospitality maintenance and security audit Maintains hotel brand service and product standards Recruits, selects and trains a skilled and motivated workforce Listens and responds to guests’ requests and/or complaints Coordinates and maintains effective relations with other departments in the hotel to promote excellent guest service Is aware of all departments’ roles and responsibilities. Coordinates with other departments on joint tasks as they relate to maintenance, particularly housekeeping and the front office. Attends and participates in weekly staff meetings, ensuring all other departments are aware of hotel maintenance issues Requirements Prior maintenance experience is required – prior maintenance experience in a hospitality setting is preferred Proven working experience and knowledge of proper maintenance processes, means, methods, and standards Strong initiative and work ethic Punctual, reliable, and regular attendance Strong attention to detail Customer-service oriented and excellent interpersonal skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Excellent communication skills – verbal and written Excellent interpersonal skills Excellent time and project management skills Achievement Orientation: Demonstrates the desire to improve, to do things better, to succeed, by committing oneself to accomplishing challenging objectives or competing against a self-defined standard. Valid driver’s license and Department of Motor Vehicles Report Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet the required criteria for driving a company vehicle Must be able to lift and carry up to 25lbs. Must be able to stand, sit, stoop, bend, twist, and reach frequently. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification
