About the role
ProSidian Seeks a Mining Industry Engineering Technicians located in Cape Town South Africa to support an engagement for U.S. Govt. International Technical Assistance Program (ITAP) providing assistance on technical, regulatory, environmental, and financial management for national development on a range of energy and non-energy resources. Key Areas of Focus: 1) policy, legal, and regulatory reform; 2) technical, operational, and economic analysis; 3) financial mechanisms and market creation; 4) economic mgmt. , transparency and fiscal policy; 5) environmental impacts and social and community issues related to resource development. ProSidian provides technical assistance and training related to four Capacity Challenges: 1) TECHNICAL understanding of resources and new extractive technologies / techniques 2) FINANCIAL mgmt. of revenues from the sector 3) LEGAL best practices for international laws and regulations 4) ENVIRONMENTAL protectins for people and environment from sector impacts. Typical country stakeholders include: Govt. officials (national, municipal, regional and village levels); Legislators; national, state, and local regulators; communities (inc. vulnerable groups). Candidates shall work to support requirements as a Mining Industry Engineering Technicians and to support a wide variety of projects for clients from advice to training and technical support. This senior technical role provides expert advice and guidance on all aspects of Oil, Gas, Extractives, and Renewable Energy Management, including designing, participating in and implementing best-in-class management programs. This position can be embedded within the Mining Industry Engineering/Geosciences business and as a senior technical specialist and will engage with leaders and experts with management of energy and mineral resources that create sustainable economies, generate new jobs and economic self-sufficiency. Advisory Support on national oil, gas, and mining policy, laws, contracting and regulation Advisory Support to increase the institutional and technical capacity in the oil, gas, and mining sectors, and tools of the Govt. Assist stakeholders in strategies, training, and knowledge management to improve oil, gas, and mining strategic planning and operational oversight Help stakeholders strengthen economic management, transparency and fiscal policy in the oil, gas, and mining sectors Help stakeholders strengthen environmental management in the oil, gas, and mining sectors Active participation and documentation in a cop (Community of Practice) to promote the sharing of best practices and learning Leadership, Communication, Govt. financial management, budgeting, financial modeling, reporting, presentations and at least (10) years performing Federal Govt. Management in fields related to Oil, Gas, Extractives with specialty in management and operations, law, geology, policy, valuations, Corporate Finance, M&A, Energy Investments Energy Development, Energy Infrastructure, Commodities Management, and Natural Resource markets. The focus of this work shall be in priority regions countries across The Western Hemisphere [Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Guyana, Mexico, Panama, and Suriname] | Europe And Eurasia [Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Turkey, Albania, and Ukraine] | In Sub-Saharan Africa [Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Mauritania, Namibia, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tanzania, and South Africa] | In The Middle East And North Africa [Algeria, Jordan, Morocco, and Tunisia] | and In Asia And The Pacific [India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Vietnam, Burma, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka] The Mining Industry Engineering Technicians shall have Minimum of Ten (10) years of consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five (5) years, Must be able to use a computer to communicate via email; and Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word/Excel/Power point) and related tools and technology required for the position. EDUCATION, REQUIRED SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE: 5-15 years of experience in Energy, Extractives, and/or Renewables and 5 years of experience in Mining Industry Engineering/Geosciences with an emphasis on unconventional reservoirs Bachelor degree in Mining Industry Engineering/Geosciences or related discipline. Master’s degree or Ph.D. is desirable, but not required. A Ph.D. may be substituted for 4 years of experience with a Master’s Degree or 6 years’ experience with a Bachelor’s Degree A training history of appropriate specialized courses and seminars is expected. Technical publications are valued but the in-depth practical experience is paramount. Ability to communicate effectively across all functions in the organization and deliver quick turnaround on management requests working with minimal direction and supervision Demonstrated expertise in both quick scoping economic evaluations and in-depth field development modeling. Effective management of multiple scenarios and key driver sensitivities. Experience with economic analysis of Energy, Extractives, and/or Renewables deposits, decline curve analysis, Ultimate Estimate of recovery discounted cash flow, the rate of return, present value and other Mining Industry Engineering/Geosciences activities concerning the drilling, completion, log interpretation and reservoir evaluations. Proven understanding of petroleum reservoir systems including geology and fluid production sufficient to prepare an assessment of risks to economic development and knowledge of both conventional and unconventional completion, drilling, and production operations. Software proficiency in decline curve analysis, rate transient analysis, or full field production modeling with solid data management and visualization skills to clean, analyze, interpret, and display key drivers to successful investment in currently active and prospective basins. PROFESSIONAL/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND TRAITS: A strong working knowledge of unconventional development, sub-surface characterization and field development planning with exceptional leadership skills to influence and drive opportunity integration. Ability to integrate business and technical judgment to network between disciplines and create multiple field development scenarios with a high competency in evaluating and making optimum economic decisions High competency in managing the Mining Industry engineering/geosciences and operations of oil & gas operations with knowledge of financial analysis and quantifying risk. Proactive (self-starter, strong decision skills relying on experience balanced with data and interpretations) and good presentation skills (appropriate level of detail for decision-making) Results oriented scenario planning experience (driven for value-added results in self and in others) with good project management (an ability to assess existing and required resources to prioritize and bring to completion multiple concurrent projects), and risk-taking (take appropriate risks in order to advance while also learning from those failures) Understanding of variables that impact deliverability and overall recovery (primary/secondary) and working knowledge of operations (an understanding of energy, extractives, and/or renewables surface facilities and workover equipment, maintenance practices, data workflows and regulatory requirements).
