Technical - Design Manager

We are expanding from retail into manufacturing, generative media, physical AI, and healthcare Role Overview We are looking for an experienced Technical Design Manager – Fit & Pattern Development to lead garment fit, pattern engineering, grading, and technical product development across multiple apparel categories. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in translating design concepts into commercially viable, production-ready garments while ensuring superior fit, construction quality, and manufacturing efficiency. The role requires close collaboration with Design, Product Development, Merchandising, Sourcing, QA, and factory technical teams to drive first-time-right development, reduce sampling iterations, and improve speed to market. Key Responsibilities Technical Design & Product Development Develop and approve garment specifications from design sketches and tech packs. Create, review, and validate production-ready patterns for multiple apparel categories. Lead fit development from proto through PP samples. Evaluate garment balance, silhouette, ease, proportion, and construction. Ensure consistency of fit across styles, collections, and seasons. Recommend construction improvements that enhance quality while reducing manufacturing complexity. Pattern Engineering Develop and review patterns using CAD systems. Ensure accurate grading across all size ranges. Improve pattern efficiency for better marker utilization and cost optimization. Standardize block patterns across brands and product categories. Troubleshoot pattern-related production issues. Fit Management Review All Fit / PP Samples Analyze fit comments and provide technical solutions. Maintain fit consistency across factories and sourcing regions. Establish fit standards for different brands and customer profiles. Approve fit before production release. Technical Documentation Prepare and maintain: Technical specifications Construction standards Measurement charts Tolerance charts Grading rules Fit comments Sewing construction guidelines Ensure all technical documentation is complete and production ready. Factory Collaboration Work closely with factories during development and production. Provide technical guidance to resolve construction challenges. Support vendors during sample development. Conduct technical reviews with manufacturing partners. Drive first-pass sample approvals. Cross Functional Collaboration Partner closely with: Design Merchandising Product Development Sourcing Quality Assurance Manufacturing Vendor Technical Teams to achieve commercial, aesthetic, and technical objectives. Quality & Compliance Ensure garments meet brand quality standards. Improve workmanship and construction quality. Reduce production defects through technical intervention. Standardize technical processes across vendors. Process Improvement Reduce sampling cycles. Improve fit approval timelines. Develop fit libraries and technical standards. Introduce best practices in digital pattern development. Support implementation of 3D fitting technologies where applicable. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Fashion Technology, Apparel Manufacturing, Garment Engineering, or related field. 10–14 years of experience in Technical Design, Fit, Pattern Development, or Product Engineering. Experience working with global fashion retailers or export houses. Strong understanding of woven, knit, and denim garment construction. Experience across menswear, womenswear, or childrenswear.
