About the role

Summary: The Planner I works as part of the Planning and Development Services team to perform complex professional-level work in current and comprehensive planning. We are seeking a creative, highly skilled, and collaborative individual to support the goals and initiatives of the city. Responsibilities: Important responsibilities of the Planner I include, but are not limited to: • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of land development codes and plans that pertain to land use, rezoning, special use, variances, and subdivisions. • Participate in the review of development proposals and applications for compliance with appropriate regulations and policies; write staff reports; present recommendations to Planning Commission, City Commission, and Board of County Commissioners. • The Planner I will provide Planner of the Day assistance and respond to general procedural inquiries from the public regarding the development process. • Conduct research regarding property characteristics and history utilizing a wide variety of data sources. Qualifications: • One (1) year professional planning experience in urban planning or a related field is preferred. • Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning, urban design, or a closely related field. • A comprehensive understanding of good planning theory and design, and the abilities to apply this to both current and long-range goals of the community. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Skilled with Microsoft computer software and able to provide graphs, maps, and publisher-type planning documents. • Experience in ArcGIS Pro is desirable.
