About the role
The First Class Pre-K Auxiliary Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a high-quality, developmentally appropriate preschool program that meets Alabama First Class Pre-K standards. The Auxiliary Teacher assists with classroom instruction, supervision, assessment activities, and daily operations while helping create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for four-year-old children. The Auxiliary Teacher works collaboratively with the Lead Teacher, families, administrators, and support staff to promote school readiness and support the social, emotional, physical, language, and cognitive development of all children. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Classroom Support Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing the Alabama First Class Pre-K curriculum and daily lesson plans. Support individual, small group, and whole group learning activities. Reinforce learning objectives through meaningful interactions and developmentally appropriate practices. Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom learning centers. Support children’s engagement in classroom routines and activities. Child Supervision and Care Maintain active supervision of children at all times. Promote a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment. Assist with transitions, meals, outdoor play, rest periods, and other daily routines. Support the implementation of positive behavior guidance strategies. Help ensure classroom compliance with required staff-to-child ratios. Assessment and Documentation Assist the Lead Teacher with observations and documentation of children's development and progress. Help collect information for child assessments and portfolios. Maintain accurate classroom records and documentation as assigned. Family Engagement Develop positive relationships with children and families. Communicate professionally with parents and guardians. Support family engagement activities and special events. Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff. Health and Safety Follow all Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education (ADECE), Alabama DHR licensing regulations, and center policies. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment. Follow proper health, sanitation, and emergency procedures. Participate in required safety drills and trainings. Professional Responsibilities Attend required First Class Pre-K trainings, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities. Collaborate effectively with the Lead Teacher and program staff. Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and flexibility in daily responsibilities. Maintain required certifications and clearances. Work Schedule Monday–Friday during program operating hours, with occasional evening family events, meetings, and professional development activities as required.
