About the role
We are seeking an experienced Substitute Teacher to join our team! The successful candidate will be responsible for classroom management and teaching. Job Summary: The Substitute Teacher will be responsible for overseeing the classroom curriculum and providing classroom supervision in the absence of the regularly assigned class teacher. Classroom operations should continue as normally as possible, so substitute teachers need to be capable classroom managers as well as Christian role models for students. Role and Responsibilities: Display the ability to connect Biblical truth to students’ lives Demonstrate a passion for ministering to students through teaching, counseling, encouragement, and mentoring Adheres to and honors Valley Christian Schools’ standards, policies, procedures as outlined in the Substitute Guide Responsible to cover a variety of classes/grades as needed Responsible to implement lesson plans as directed by the assigned classroom teacher Adheres to and honors Valley Christian Schools’ standards, policies, procedures as outlined in the Substitute Guide Maintain records by documenting attendance, incidents, and behavior in accordance with guidelines and policies Demonstrate sound judgment in decision-making Follow Substitute Teachers Dept. Policies & Procedures and meticulously record attendance, incidents, and behavior according to school policies Promote student engagement to inspire and encourage progress while supporting and strengthening the learning capabilities of each student Maintain a healthy learning environment for the students in the classroom by using appropriate enforcement of student behavior rules Attend professional development workshops provided by Valley Christian Schools Exercise open and respectful communication with students, families, co-workers, and supervisors Follow all crisis management procedures in the event of an emergency or drill Performs other related assigned duties Requirements Qualifications and Skills: Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is a consistent testimony among others Agree to uphold Valley Christian’s Mission & Beliefs which can be found at http://valleychristianaz.org/about/philosophy/ Faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with our school’s Mission & Beliefs Must have and maintain a valid level one IVP fingerprint card Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Must be proficient with a computer and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) or related software Proficiency in English for speaking, reading, and writing in a professional context for work-related communication. Ability to multitask with organization Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college is required Preferred Skills and Knowledge: Teaching Degree, teaching experience or related experience Physical Requirements: Use a computer (visual and keyboarding) for long periods of time Able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds At times requires stooping, bending, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching, and climbing stairs (2-story) Use of hands, fingers, and arms to reach, grip, and maneuver objects Must be able to respond quickly to sounds (fire/security alarms) Work in a noisy and crowded school environment Frequent walking throughout the campus Must be able to travel in state and between campuses, to vendors, and related events Work around small children including sitting, standing, running and climbing stairs Must be able to lift and carry small children up to 40 pounds in case of emergency Background Check Statement: VCS conducts pre-employment screening for all positions which includes a criminal background check, verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications.
